I had and still do, but I wore it in a bun most of the time in school. It's fairly common in Sweden cus we have a lot of smelly metal heads and viking larpers. Some of my friends gave me shit for it but it was all in good fun.

Nuh, having long hair was really dangerous for boy's health in my school, it's kinda sign of faggs. there were such people but they had pretty low status in school hierarchy.

Objectively it's kinda shitty, but it has a certain irresistible charm unlike most american cities. If you do come make sure you don't spend all your time in the french quarter, it's super touristy and locals don't really go there that much.
