I'd probably choose languages whose natives do not learn English. From the perspective of scientist...

English is mandatory.
Mandarin I think would be important to know.
Hindi, maybe but probably not
I'd like to say Spanish because it has so many speakers but I don't think they do much.
I think Arabic would be pointless from how little they do.

I think #3 would be a vanity choice like German. it's very important in western Europe but it also sounds nice to me and the nazis had an unbeatable aesthetic of superiority which is very hot, whether or not it was true doesn't matter. Mandarin has so many speakers and they are definitely important so I think it'd be a decent choice. China comes off as a oppressive, polluted place currently though so I don't like the idea entirely and I'd never live there.

if Finns didn't know English, I'd choose Finnish solely because their education system is so, so good that I am sure they will have a high percentage of great people in the future who I'd like to communicate with. Germany also is the case.

Currently I can operate in Finnish, English and Swedish. I might want to change Swedish to French or German if given the chance ex machina. I have studied both but I have no meaningful French or German skills.

Dropping Swedish might sound obvious but I've been getting more fluent lately in what I read in Swedish and there are benefits in knowing Swedish since lots of stuff written in Swedish and Norwegian is very relevant to Finland too. For example lots of machinery is made specifically for Nordic conditions and qvasi silent knowledge can be found on specific forums in Swedish and Norwegian on top of lots of youtube videos being in Swedish and Norwegian.

I don't know. It's sort of a tough one. I'm pretty sure there would be lots of Swedes and Norwegians who would be surprised about the benefits of knowing Finnish for the same reasons.
