>French is the 5th most spoken language in the world >4th biggest language on the Internet >Third language of business and commerce >French is spoken on all five continents, the only other language to achieve this is English. >French is an official language of 32 states >Second most popular language to learn in schools across Europe >There are 10% more French speakers than 4 years ago >Projections for 2070 are that there will be between 477 and 747 million French speakers around the world

>On all 5 continents There are more than 5 >There are 10% more French speakers than 4 years ago Yes, but only because African blacks "speak" it. Those 747 million French speakers are going to butcher your language.
Evan Brown
Not a communard at all. I think Napoleon III was an excellent administrator but an overall poor leader. His foreign policy managed only to isolate France diplomatically in Europe. For example, I think he had little foresight. He didn't prepare properly for the inevitable war with Germany; he did want to expand conscription which was a good thing since reserves would definitely have helped in the Franco-Prussian war, but he's also the man who alienated the only ally France could possibly expect, Austria, by: >unifying Italy against Austria for no reason other than muh pan-Latinism and muh self-determination of peoples >not helping Austria in 1866, Bismarck himself said that a simple march of 40000 French soldiers on the Rhine would have made him back down There were many ways he could've prevented German unification, but he failed in doing so and is therefore a mediocre leader. The annexation of Savoy and Nice are meager compensations for the emergence of a great power right next to France.
Kayden Wood
French is a LARP invented by Jacobins in the 1790s It should be restricted to its historic heartland and Breton, German, Occitan, Dutch, Basque, Corsican, Catalan etc should be revitalised.

Invented by the Nobles in the royal court in Ile de France since 8th century

It's not his fault, he faced Bismarck, the most cunning German in the history of Germans. He was so cunning that some people would mistake him for an Anglo.

French language is D’Oil. 150 years ago Norman “French” was an entirely different language from D’oil/Parisian and you needed translators because they were less similar to each other than Serbian v Croatian. France is a fake country and the language was forced upon Occitans.
Oliver Garcia
I don’t get it why you don’t get it. It’s simple yet. In business language, French is 3rd
Jaxson Baker
By what metrics?
Jason Myers
That does not change the fact that it is the nobles in the royal court who made french language since 8th century. The french books from 12th century are in old french, the direct ancestor of the modern french (Parisian)
Caleb Butler
weird how at least here in the states, German is more useful and heard more than proper french not counting hillbilly french or quebec french
Asher Brown
would the world have been any different if he didn't die young?
they've had language protection laws since the 60s so the French spoken in Quebec has less English loanwords plus they went through something similar to the devotee Revolution so a lot of French Canadians try to preserve the language.
So French Canadians essentially speak a older version of French imagine talking to someone from the 1700s.
Levi Reed
>has less English loanwords >French Canadians essentially speak a older version of French imagine talking to someone from the 1700s Lmao, you clearly don't have the slightest idea of what you're talking about
Nicholas Walker

Blake Jackson
>weird how at least here in the states, German is more useful and heard more than proper french not counting hillbilly french or quebec french Not true. You can hear French spoken in parts of Louisiana and New England
Jordan Green
I think a lot of that is economic
Jayden Wood

>Quebec French is pure 18th century French! Just look at pic related. At least in European French, English loanwords are words that every language uses, like week-end, parking, football, skateboard. Quebec French speakers actually prefer English words to their French equivalent(they say "dude" or "chum" where we'd say "mec" for example). They also have the rather sad concept of nonce words: >It is also very commonplace for an English word to be used as a nonce word, for example when the speaker temporarily cannot remember the French word. This is particularly common with technical words; indeed, years ago before technical documentation began to be printed in French in Quebec, an English word might be the most common way for a French-speaking mechanic or other technical worker to refer to the mechanisms he or she had to deal with. Quebec French is literally the least pure dialect of French, and also the most influenced by English. If you want to hear something that resembles 18th century French, I advise you to go to literally any isolated village in Wallonia or Northern France.
You forgot that most of those are niggers, and who would want to talk to them?
Juan Russell
L'étendue de l'influence de l'occitan sur le français s'élève à quelques emprunts lexicaux.
Jack Ortiz
A lot are European, Canadian, or North African
Gabriel Fisher
Ugly irrelevant language only spoken in third world brown shitholes. Same applies to Spanish, people learn it thinking it will be useful when in fact it is spoken in poor countries where you can't do any bussiness cuz socialist countries and cuz everyone is dirt poor, no interesting media, no culture, simplest phonology ever ( even simpler than Japanese), and a long list of negatives.
Luis Miller
how is Swiss French different from French French ?

It used to be the norm until the 17th century when "soixante-dix, quatre-vingts, quatre-vingt-dix" first appeared in writing. We just decided to keep the system that makes sense.

>quelques emprunts lexicaux. le français est un langue latine via les langues d'oc au final le français est bien plus proche du sud que du nord
Anthony Richardson
So has Norman merged into a dialect through language contact or is there still a demonstrably mutually unintelligible Modern Norman language we can point to?
Christian Gonzalez
Luke Rogers
Great. Now go learn English if you want to do business internationally. Peace out.
