I have a theory that this is part of the force driving birthrates down as well. Women at their prime either settle with one of the best guys or they have sex with those guys to no end until their peak years are past them. By this point they will consider other men but those men have moved out of the position where they would consider her to be a real romantic choice and now just see her as a sexual option which is better than nothing. They're less willing to compromise and less willing to work to maintain the relationship because all relationships now have less meaning and permanence. So for that reason men also just live their lives the way they want to, spending time on video games and things like that, getting regular sex but not with any family goals or anything like that.

Don't know what to say. I have a bias and so I want to blame women, but they probably are unhappy about this too. The west does not really seem to care for long stable relationships anymore.

I would think that this is uncommon and just because I'm a loser but I just watched my neighbor's marriage go down the shitter and his wife has left and now he's just home by himself basically all the time when he's not at work. He has friends over periodically but definitely not enough for peace of mind.

There is such threshold and I think that is one of the main reasons why the amount of people not getting married in civilized countries is increasing. It may also be linked to divorce rates rising.
