Is this the most misunderstood region of western europe?
>Doesn't fit any of the foreign Spanish stereotypes
>green and full of mountains
>rainy
>culture and traditions separate from Spain in general
Northern Spain
It's the only European part of Iberia along with Galicia and Northern Portugal.
>using european as a racial term
Atlantic Spain > Mediterranean Spain
You known the longer I spent here the more I realize the north of Iberia is the best. I hate living in the center of Portugal
it literally is
+1
I mean in the sense that it's more akin to Europe as far as scenery goes. The rest of Iberia is more like an extension of Africa.
Swedish Goths carried success with them wherever they went. Except maybe New Jersey.
All true Europeans are nordic.
>Galician
>med
ummm we are on the atlantic coast sweetie... this has nothing to do with any spanish stereotypes you heard before...
>Barcelona
>quiet
what the fuck am i reading
its probably the biggest tourist trap in Spain
>European
meme subjective term
>along with galicia
galicia is already in northern spain
Ask a Northern Iberian who lives in Valença do Minho anything.
Central(ish) Portufag here,I'm thinking of going up north. How u doing over there
These always look real picturesque, but what is it actually like to live in one of these old houses in one of these villages?
Relaxing,peaceful and simpler.
Where do you live desu
The more I look into it the more I love northern Spain. How does the climate compare to the rest of the country? Besides just being rainy of course.
well, the main reason they are such rainy places are the mountains. the clouds collide with them and it rains, same reason theres a few pockets of rainy places in the rest of spain where theres isolated mountains
its atlantic weather, similar to what you would find in ireland or southern britain probably
Why does portuguese sound like spanish and french mixed together when you're surrounded by spain.
Tell me cool facts about the Basque region
surely a region with a unique, isolated language has some cool shit to know
Independence when?
Cope
it doesn't
at all
Why does Portuguese sound like Spanish with a Russian accent when all of Europe is in between Portugal and Russia?
Nah that's bullshit. Greece, South Italy and Southern Spain is distinctivly MED which is a European sub-culture
Which is an arab subculture
I only hear it in brazilian jazz and it absolutely does in that.
open.spotify.com
European civilization came from there so unless you count entire European civilization as an extension of Messopotamian (Not Arab) civilizations that's wrong
Portuguese is pretty close to what spanish sounded like in the 13th century phonetically speaking
it probably had influence from mozarabic
youtube.com
lexically speaking, theres 90% lexical similarity between portuguese and spanish, closer than spanish and catalan for instance. the big difference is the phonetics, wich is the main reason we struggle to understand them when they speak, but we can usually read most of their texts
youtube.com
It is true, they use a lot of sounds that appear in Russian, even if none of the words aren't similar it makes it sound like Russian
None of that is true.
European civilization is German and british
>it probably had influence from mozarabic
Kys. Portuguese is pure unlike your dirty quasi Arab language.
I looked up brazialians speaking and they sound nothing like this they sound more like spanish with a french accent.
German and British civilization spawned as a copy of Rome tho, especially in medieval times. And their morales were often defined by Christianity, a religion that spread thanks to Greeks and Romans
>with a french accent.
you have no idea what french sounds like
they dont sound french at all
Yeah that's why we're Muslims and speak a Semitic language and women are the least free of Europe and pork is the most important meat of our gastronomy.
They use the same nasaly timbre on many of the words and inflect similarly.
Christianity had no part in german and british civilization.
I'm dealing with a brainlet here
>being this retarded
protip brits and germans did nothing worthy of note until the 14th century
Christianity is of no different racial element to islam and most of your ancestors were arabic speakers.
What in the fuck Martin Luther was German and it was called the Holy Roman Empire for a long time you absolute dipshit.
>>culture and traditions separate from Spain in general
Not that much
Mozarabs were christians, but i didn't expect less from a goblino
And you are living in german and british civilization dumb arab.
German civilization began with the end of the hre past napoleonic era same with british civilization that invented cars, industry, steam engines, machine guns etc..
First of all, people were expelled as the northern kingdoms expanded southwards, so the vast majority of the Spanish genetic stock (aside from Andalusia) comes from northerners.
Second of all, people in Al-Andalus spoke Mozarabic, a Romance language.
You mean after they stopped the Ottoman Empire from destroying Europe?
wanna know how I know you play Paradox Interactive games and post in /gsg/?
Look brother i totally agree with your post
I just really dont want it to atract more people here
this, leave us alone
i'm going to have to say based on this one lads.
Fun fact; the first inhabitants of northern iberia were prehistoric north africans
Frequently at war with the papacy, which was hemmed in between Frederick's lands in northern Italy and his Kingdom of Sicily (the Regno) to the south, he was excommunicated four times and often vilified in pro-papal chronicles of the time and after. Pope Gregory IX went so far as to call him an Antichrist.
Speaking six languages (Latin, Sicilian, Middle High German, Langues d'oïl, Greek and Arabic[4]), Frederick was an avid patron of science and the arts. He played a major role in promoting literature through the Sicilian School of poetry. His Sicilian royal court in Palermo, beginning around 1220, saw the first use of a literary form of an Italo-Romance language, Sicilian. The poetry that emanated from the school had a significant influence on literature and on what was to become the modern Italian language.[5] He was also the first king to formally outlaw trial by ordeal, which had come to be viewed as superstitious.[6]
>Is this the most misunderstood region of western europe?
I don't think so, you just have not to count the opinion of Americans.
Brainlet
North africans didnt exist in pre historic iberia it was a desolate steppe before afro asiatic colonization of north africa in the 2000s bce.
The pope called the HRE emperor the anti christ that settles it.
Yeah because the pope was trying to dominate both the religious and secular aspects of Europe and the Holy Roman emperor was against it and wanted the papacy under his control.
Average person thinks of Spain as either Barcelona, Madrid, or the Southern beaches.
You just have to remember, no matter the country, the average person is very narrow-minded and actually very stupid. The thing about Jow Forums is every American and Brit can accsess it while only some people from other countries can. Notce that the English speaking countries have the worst posters? That's cause most normalfags come from English speaking countries
Thats completely false
Oldest remains have been 44,000 years old
Your'e losing your time by trying to debate someone who believes we live in a "British-German civilisation". Probably a weird wehraboo.
An Anglo civilisation, I could more or less accept for the current year, but British-German? Lmfao what has this kid smoked
Still, north Spain is not misunderstood, it's not known which is different.
Yes I already noticed that American flags are the worse poster here, read your argument before and I agree with it.
Frederick the II had no love for Christianity or any reason to desire it, he saw it as a foreign nonsensical cult.
There were many Popes and many Emperors of the HRE you can't just say one of them did something and paint it as if the entire thing was like that.
Absolute brainlet
>Implying that Balkan posters are not toxic at all and definitely don’t try to stir the pot
Try again Vukmir
Based
I know Spanish think you're on the same level as Greeks or Italians but you're not :)
I spend about a quarter of my time in the Basque Country and it’s absolutely based. Best region of Spain by far
Not only did he not hate Christanity (just the Pope), but he also spoke Latin and Sicilian, he was not some "Nerhtern Europe good Sourthern Europe bad" guy
god why are americans such cretins
Also
>from two skeletons dating from between 3600 and 4500 years ago, reveals another element in the Iberian mixture. One was North African and the other had a grandparent with North African ancestry, according to a study today in Science by Iñigo Olalde, a postdoc in the lab of population geneticist David Reich at Harvard Medical School in Boston, and
Berbers are afro asiatic thus originated here from 8000BCE and were nowhere in north africa.

Uniparental DNA analysis has established ties between Berbers and other Afroasiatic speakers in Africa. Most of these populations belong to the E1b1b paternal haplogroup
Berbers are somalians/ethiopians.
I almost can see my house from there
Shit nigga, where are you from?

>mfw somali berber/portuguese claims to be iberian
Haha it was a joke, it's just that it looks really similar to where i live, in Ordes

Meant for
I guess?
I asked unironically because it's just my balcony and it isn't that high, but because the estuary has elevations on the sides it looks higher.
>Doesn't fit any of the foreign Spanish stereotypes
Most of Spain doesn’t either. The vast majority of stereotypes come from Andalusia because it is the most “exotic” region in Spain, thus attracts more foreigners. Maybe most of Spain fits the stereotype of an arid and hot region, but the rest of them only fit in the south and the Mediterranean coast.
>green and full of mountains
>rainy
This is true. But there are plenty of mountains elsewhere in Iberia.
>culture and traditions separate from Spain in general
What do you even mean by that? You should know that Spain isn’t exactly homogeneous in terms of culture. Once again, you are probably thinking about Andalusia, which is not the culture of Spain. Castille, however, is somewhat similar in terms of culture to the north, especially in the northern part.
That being said, I love the north of Spain, but it is not that different.
