I don't want to sound like some edgy fuck, but I just think the world really does revolve around things like lust, attraction, money, and power, so it's really to my advantage to train to attain those things.
I mean, there was some intrinsic motivation to do my PhD out of intellectual pursuit, but I would be lying if I didn't say that part of the motivation was also just to have that Dr./Ph.D. attached to my name and to potentially earn more money. Just be honest with yourself about what you want in life, and try your best to pursue it. You only get one life, so give it your best. I don't think you want to look back several years from now and wonder "what if" and have regrets.
I took a couple of years in college, and I currently still self-study. If you're asking because you want to know how it'll affect what services you'll get, my experience is this: some soaplands will sort of test you just a little bit with some basic Japanese, and if you do fine, they'll let you in. I mentioned that Dolce soapland earlier that is loli-themed, and they do exactly that. I've heard from other foreigners that they had the amount of girls available for them to choose from that day limited to just two because they were foreigners. I was able to use my Japanese to tell them I was willing to wait longer or come back at a different time to see the girl I wanted, and they opened up the list of girls that I could see after that. Places that don't accept foreigners won't care if you know zero Japanese are are completely fluent. Japan has become a bit more foreigner-friendly in the past few years in regards to sex establishments, so you have more options now than before.
Kaho doesn't work at any places to the best of my knowledge, but that could always change.
