Ph.D. in Math

Algebraic Geometry at top5 in the world. Would say more, but I don't want to be doxxed.

Never even bothered with applying

Don't want to sound like a dick but I'll start thinking about it more seriously only closer to graduation. Academia can be a bitch and I'd like to open a family at some point, so I will need some money to provide them with appropriate life. Working in finances for few years saving as much money as possible to invest it back together with bonuses should let me retire by 35. Idk, anyway this phd wasn't that bad idea.

The thing is no mathematicians outside of algebraic geometry give a shit about it. Even the commutative algebra community, except Eisenbud, gives a shit about Alg Geo really.

The Comm Alg power players at Notre Dame, the Kansases, UVA, none of them care about Alg Geo.

I'm not even sure Vakil has an idea what direction alg geo should be going.

Fuck, motives are the best things going right now, everyone else is stuck. Except maybe some people chasing Hodge, but that's essentially homological, and analytic on complex manifolds.

meant to say NOT even the commutative alg community.

Also you're not going to get those jobs without a statistical focus, these recruiters are just dumb as shit.

Do you know time series analysis, stochastic PDE? Hell do you even know R?

PS I'm an algebraic topology/dynamics/3 and 4 manifold PhD student.
