I come from a welfare country. My little bro got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 5 years old.

Every month we go visit the doc and we get a monthly supply of insulin (the ones that come in pens + the pens themselves). All for free. A year ago we finally got our doc to perscribe an insulin pump. Costs and maintenence and installation or whatever would have cost us 20k+ usd apparently. Our public hospital flew in a specialist from Singapore to personally do it. Its all free.

My country isnt the best. Most people are poor and im sure the standard of living is worse here than in America. But knowing that my government won't just do the bare minimum to keep us alive, but do what they reasonably can to improve our living conditions to that which modern medicine can provide, i am eternally grateful

I'm an amerimutt making near $400k - family of 5 - NO INSURANCE.

I'm not paying $1,000 a month for trash tier catastrophic plan that I used to pay $400 a month for before Obongo fucked everything up worse than it already was by trying to redistribute wealth on a massive scale through the healthcare system.

So far this year, I've spent $1500 out of pocket. I would have spent approx $7,000 on insurance and STILL spent the $1500 because it wouldn't have been covered anyways as it was dental and vision related. So I have saved over $7,000 this year by not having insurance... to be generous - maybe the insurance would have covered $500 of the total tab, which also included annual checkups for my kids and wife.

I'll wait for the new plans to be available across state lines. I'll buy a catastrophic plan again, because all I'm trying to protect myself from is the big big stuff. I don't mind paying for the routine shit out of pocket.

America has one of the highest obesity rates in the world. I'll be ok with universal healthcare when obesity becomes a taxable offense. Your health Care will be covered based on a physical health examination. Those in the optimal range of health for their age and sex bracket can be covered at 100% for any medically necessary expenses because clearly any health problems were a fluke of genetics rather than bad life choices. Overweight people would be charged higher rates. The same would apply for people that smoke, take drugs, aren't active, etc. Exceptions would be made for those with chronic illnesses that prevent physical activity but being too fat to walk wouldn't be one of them.

Basically if you eat your way into bad health it shouldn't be the responsibility of society to keep you alive.

If you try hard to stay healthy it's beneficial to society to mitigate your bad luck.

I was on vacation In Poland and I got sick. I didn't have travel insurance or anything. I went to an urgent care facility. Saw the doctor, paid the equivalent of 40 USD for the visit. He gave me a prescription and I went to a random pharmacy and bought the antibiotics I needed plus 2 over the counters for less than 30 USD.
This visit in the US probably would've cost my insurance several hundred dollars and the prescriptions as well would've been several hundred.
Just go someplace else.
