Why are Terrones (Southern Italians) so dark?

Afaik Arabs were only in Sicily and Bari and not for that long
I think Greeks look lighter desu

In Catania, Sicily we easily reach 40° C in summer.
Many people either work in the fields under the open sun or as fisher men.
It's usually them that have a darker complexion.

Greeks aren't that different, in fact I was exchanged for one when I visited Praha.
I get we tend to be darker but I would argue it's just our lifestyle and sun exposure.

Just pics and videos I've seen. Like yes, Greeks are pretty swarthy but there still seems to be a lot of white looking Greeks, specially outside the islands. But Southern Italians seem to be mostly and overwhelmingly swarthy which I don't really get why cause I can't think of any reason for that to be the case, specially when the most important outside influence on you seems to be Greeks.
