As a Korean who lived most of my life in Australia, I just don't understand how this flag is extremely offensive to Koreans. I mean, it's still being used in the Japanese defense forces are they?
I remember my old FoB Korean friend who flipped out when he saw red "rays" on some random shop advertisement. He told me that he wants to kill the owner for being "offensive" and "uneducated" on the whole issue between Korea and Japan. I was baffled because that rays had nothing to do with the rising sun flag nor it looks like one.
I don't know. I've been called a traitor to my country simply because holding a neutral view on this issue (as a Korean ethnically) is a no-go for most Koreans.
Isn't it because the rays represent the expanding influence of Japan, and as the losers Koreans are still butthurt?

most people here dont give a shit it appears sometimes in japanese restaurants or supermarkets sometimes people wear shirts with the flag as well considering how much the japanese is demonised in our textbooks it is quite surprising hardly anyone gives a shit though i imagine the narrative is far stronger in korea
