A question specifically to non-westeners, that is non-europeans and non-anglos (specially arabs, slavs, asians and africans).
Do you see Latin America as western? When you observe our cultures, traditions and behaviors do you lump them with the western world or do you think we are something else?
I am curious because this discussion always seems to be had only from within, which is ironic since the definition of "West" ideally should be taken from what the "Eastern" counterpart thinks.
Unironically no, we see anything brown as non-western and good.
Julian Torres
I see myself in the bottom left LOL
Jace Gomez
yes.
Evan Flores
No, you are just south american. You are all just seen as brazilians to be honest cause it's the most known country in south america.
Alexander Adams
I think it's actually true
Wyatt Bell
And no I don't consider you western although of course closer to the western world than to the Arab world for example
Connor Walker
I've haven't been to Estonia, but I've been to Spain, Czech Republic and Poland, and culture is very different, latin america and spain definitely have a similar culture, but Spain and Estonia probably have a more similar standard of living (depends on which latam country and social class tho)
Landon Moore
you are biased because you wanna be western and be seen as one, though
Brody Foster
It's Impossible.
Evan Rivera
Croatia is borderline Western. Latinos are just Latinos.
Gavin Russell
The West is Protestants + French and German Catholics.
Ayden Johnson
You should visit Spain and see it for yourself if you don't believe me tho, things are very different between Iberia and central-eastern europe, from the food, the architecture, the daily schedule, so many things are completely different.
Anyways I am asking because I am curious about what other perceptions are, that's enough to discard inmediate biases imo
Caleb Price
Does it depend on what you say West, a member of the otam or ocde or a member of the marshal plane, or a pure descendant of European?
Jace Ramirez
This I met an American that though we were living in some kind of tropical jungle, and didn't expected freezing temperatures down here in southern Chile.
I'd say it's a spin off of western culture in a sense. Some countries like chile can be considered closer to average European stuff but Latin america has some marked differences for the most part that are too much to overlook. t. el egiptiANO
Jayden Cooper
shut the fuck up again, I am asking about eastern perceptions like here
Levi Thomas
thanks if you really are egyptian
Aiden Torres
I am Slavic.
Nolan Barnes
>I am asking about eastern perceptions like here You said Slavs, m8. Other South Slavs would agree, that Latinos are their own thing. And given how Eastern Europe and South America are on a similar level economically, and how many Latinos flirted with socialism, people might jokingly claim that Latinos are closer to Slavs than Westerners.
Eli Lee
But you live in Norway which shapes your identity and perception of what western is and constitutes, same with the american here
Jose White
No, I feel like Latin America is its own culture and has its own history thats separate from the west.
t. korean american
Jeremiah Diaz
I only see Argentina, Chile and Uruguay as Westerner. The rest of you are Indians to me.
Poverty, wars of drug cartels, the slave trade, slums, festivals are all what I know about South America. And this is definitely not associated with Western kuckoldistans.
Josiah Morales
That's ok, thank you for your input Genghis
Levi Clark
I meant more of the historically orthodox slavic countries but fair enough, to me Croatia is more western than not and its certainly catholic
you are NOT eastern, you are American and thus western, I am asking for the opinion of people involved wit their cultures
Jonathan Morgan
I don't want nothing to do with you (((westerners))) The truth is that Brazil has received immigration from every continent, we are not bound to anyone
Adam Mitchell
I am not sure if your country is eastern enough to qualify but thanks for your participation thanks
See
Isaiah Ward
Well yeah but I also have another part of my life living in my shithole and when everyone around me and myself said 'The West' everyone knows what it means, nobody would say "I'm moving to the West" and then hop on a plane to South America, or Poland for that matter.
Michael Hughes
That's absolutely true. Brazil is a world by its own.
Cameron Smith
They're mostly their own thing. Only Brazil is still really trying to be western. The way they fetishize Catholicism, monarchy and the empire is different from all other Latino countries. They don't have this core of socialism and revolution baked into their identity. When hearing Brazilians talking, sometimes it feels like what they're really saying is "bring back the empire, white ruling class nao!" It's strange, but it all feels deeply familiar in comparison to grievances of other countries that larp only white aesthetics.
Carson Gutierrez
You cannot assert that, sorry but you don't qualify, you seem to miss the scope of what I am asking for
Luis Torres
LMAO its really really funny that you have this perception but thanks for sharing it anyways Also Croatia is Catholic and thus western
Jaxon Sullivan
God save antropofagia btw.
Noah Hall
Orthodox Slavic countries are as European as any other European country by every definition of the word.
Let me explaining my opinions Furstly, I thought tfx jg and Mexico is Brazil fof monkey I think jungel and Mexico so if your tell I think jungel and not east But russja football I think is Argentina
Logan Brooks
Wh*Te peop*e for really love and connect with helicopter rides grandpa some reason.
Justin Taylor
I read on Jow Forums that Chile is Germanic and white.
Leo Jackson
Does western mean to be cucked, hypersocial but hyperindividualized at the same time and subverted being from the inside?
Josiah Rodriguez
you know what, fair enough, I should've defined better my terms, its obvious that i meant western europeans but this thread probably will keep attracting smartasses like you so i just better let it die and make it again later, hopefully I'll be able to get better insight
I would definitely agree, I found it funny because these reconstitutionalist or unionist movements are all over latin america, i would argue that they are even stronger in puerto rico, costa rica and mexico than in brazil, have u ever heard about hispanistas?
Evan Ward
Yes
Jackson Rogers
I know about Mexico, but not about Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. >hispanistas Gib details.
Tyler Hughes
All of Latin American loves white people
Ian Allen
Sounds like Sudacas larping as Spainards .
Nathaniel King
I thought latin amerikanska is just för druging i think. Äraps don't consider them west because they are fucked by west, that my opinion also we will revenge when you destroy ärap country + kill infidel that my opinion
>White beopl let me pas the walling pleaaes
Adam Cook
more w*stern than me YTboy
Camden Powell
right wing hispanic identitarians, basically a form of alt-right but thats extremely historicist and glorifies catholicism and belive in a pan-iberoamerican nation with western values and iberian heritage at the spiritual center of it
Owen Allen
we are more western than you, muhammad
Isaac Jones
>a pan-iberoamerican nation I'm pretty right wing, but that doesn't sound like a good idea desu
They sound like a dank group to hang around.
Levi Jones
They are an interesting bunch, I have many of them as friends The racial realist version of hispanismo is called castizo futurism basically bleach latinos until they are a non issue and racially homogeneous
Brody Morales
No, Latin-America isn't western.
Ethan Ortiz
Yes
Eli Peterson
You really don't know what happened desu The Portuguese crown fleed to Brazil and stayed here for long enough, Dom Pedro II declared our independence from Portugal The Portuguese had missions to catholize (I guess this is the word) the natives, we are a Catholic country We don't try to larp as white or go after imperialism because we want to be westerners
Owen Nelson
Mestizos and whites, but we are not killing us each other everyday like savages or adopting 3rd world economic/cultural policies
Jack Taylor
Outside of Jow Forums we are. We're just not rich
Christian Gonzalez
Why isn't Chile and Argentina united?
Gabriel Rogers
How big is your white population
Ayden Rogers
>this thread probably will keep attracting smartasses like you Oh well excuse us for pointing out the obvious.
They never have been, argentina was the viceroyalty of la plata, chile was the capitania general de chile, at no point in history they have been the same people, even in native times chileans were mapuches, argies were patagonians
Oliver Phillips
Like 0,1 % of the population
Brody Jackson
A public health book from theUniversity of Chile(currently inaccessible) states that 65% of the population is of Caucasian origin;Castizos/Mestizos with an average 60% Caucasian ancestry and 40% Native American ancestry are estimated to amount a total of 30%, while Native Americans (Amerindians) comprise the remaining 5%.
UNAMprofessor ofLatin Americanstudies, Francisco Lizcano, in his social research estimates that a predominant 52.7% of the Chilean population can be classified asculturally European, with an estimated 44% asMestizo.Albeit this is an estimation based on cultural aspects. Other social studies put the total amount ofWhitesat over 60 percent.
Wikipedia
Alexander Murphy
As said there's not even one single reason for that, it would make more sense if Chile was part of Peru since the capitania general de chile was under the control of the Virreinato del Peru
Daniel Ortiz
So why aren't you part of Peru. Tell me about Patagonian Indians, how come they didn't make great cities at the Eastern coast?
Xavier Roberts
The only relevant part about that is that the average chilean is 60% euro and 40% native Scarce population, they lived in tribes pretty much like american indians
Julian Jackson
Isn't like Patagonia the best land for agriculture in South America? Why could not they produce food like the Inca?
Anthony Morgan
mexicans are too
Jack Hernandez
Patagonia is a cold desert. Las Pampas is what you’re thinking of
Andrew Moore
Mapuche are from both Chile and Argentina the "patagones" also in the extreme southern regions had the same population distribution, remember a good chunk of the Argentinian patagonia was Chilean
Don’t know. Probably not enough density or not feasible for American crops.
Charles Rogers
>remember a good chunk of the Argentinian patagonia was Chilean No, a good chunk of the Patagonia was of the natives, all that shit about Argentina "stealing" the Patagonia is a lie, Patagonia wasn't Chilean or Argentinian at that time
Carter Lopez
Hell no.
Kayden Walker
>he thinks Argentina, Chile and Uruguay are whites
Thomas Flores
I know, I'm just using modern national limits to put it in perspective.
Cope. You have Niggers like Nerman and Ronaldinho.
Benjamin James
...
Zachary Foster
Of course we would have, we didn't exterminate the slaves like argies did
John Evans
Tbf It was a shock to me they have guaranies mapuches and sheit. I thought they only had those "eskimo" kind of native, not sure what it's the name of then now.
Asher Rodriguez
them* Checked
Ayden Lewis
We have inherited a lot of our autism from them, so I wouldn't put it that far. Some spaniards have claimed to share some similarity with us while others claim to be more culturally similar to their european neighbors, which in the end, I'm pretty sure it all entails to how they see themselves, so take it with a grain of salt.
Either way, we're our own cultural group with some western influence (or downright heavily westernized, if you consider most of our tradition and holidays that came from Europe).
