The link token Has a special function called “depreciate.” It is called every 5 seconds as soon as it enters a wallet. Didn’t you read the whitepaper or contract code?

The LINK token is used as payment for node operators. A node is hardware that is 'staking' LINK and performs API calls to retrieve data for the smart contract. The more LINK a node has, the higher it's reputation and reward. The higher the price of LINK, the better the incentive to retrieve correct data, as being a bad actor would end up costing you reputation and thus money vs. earning more LINK.
Smart contracts are truly useful if data from the real world can be used to automate transactions and processes, Chainlink allows for that to be possible.
