to be honest tho the only reason Im learning dutch is because I hear that it's the closest language to english and thus would be the easiest one. But hearing that 98% of dutch people also speak english fluently kinda depresses me because that means it's basically worthless to learn.

French is easier to understand by hearing than English. At least for me. I don't speak yet, learned only by one year, but it's really easier to understand them.

Scots is the clothest, but I doubt there is a songs in it.

Is your country losing their cultural heritage? I have a Dutch friend that has never left the country yet they hardly remember their own language and only speak English. I feel like she is representative of a large portion of upcoming generations the way she talks about everyone else rarely speaking Dutch

It's a simpler version of Dutch so to a Dutch native it sounds like a toddler language.
