Most of times if someone had "hell" in prison its because he couldn't follow social rules etc. if he adapts to them he'll be fine.

In USA we just have way way more prisoners than anyone else. Everyone has at least one fuckup relative or friend who has been to prison or jail even if they haven't been themselves. The problems get more exaggerated (see people in the thread claiming that 95% of prisoners are raped when the real number is 7%). There are 2.3 million people incarcerated, 1.5 million in prison that's as big as some European nations on their own.
