it was built in the '80s by a labor government and they wanted something modern for modern australia. i think everyone agrees it's a bit shit now
(good doco on it youtu.be
old parliament house was more simple and has a certain appeal to it, a bit like a colonial mansion. it's just very small. that's the problem westminster is having now too, it was designed for a different time
the structure itself is ugly but i like the bleached white color. makes me think of the opera house
Amateurs
don't quite understand australia's post-WWII anti-Imperial/British reaction
I can understand it was an attempt to create a new Australian identity but it led to some excesses like tearing down Victorian architecture
From last thread
I don't think Canadians shun Britain at all, we are just a much older colony and have had more time to grow more independent. We also border America. If an Aussie wants go move to a major city or attend a world famous university they go to the UK so the country is full of them. If a Canadian wants to work at a huge company or attend a world famous uni or live in a global city they can take a short drive to America so Canadians are less represented in the UK and seem more foreign to Brits than Aussies or Kiwis. We are also one quarter French so that makes a big difference. I don't think Anglo Canadians shun Britain anymore than Anglo Aussies and it's certainly a big part of our history. The Commonwealth freedom of movement plan is more popular in Canada than in Australia despite us being full of Frenchmen. I think a big part of Canadian culture is also being "not American," which we usually prove by pointing out how British we are compared to them (parliament, monarchy, etc). Australia doesn't have a cultural fear of being seen as American and so are less reluctant to distance themselves from the yanks.
not that impressive pêh
when i was in canberra for year 6 excursion we drove past old parliament house and we saw john howard
Australia, Canada and NZ were colonies in the same way as the others desu

Barbados is now the most populated English colony.
Yesterday on Jow Forums there was actually a guy from Turks and Caicos islands (turned out he was a US tourist)
I dont understand why is Canada and brazil there?
Is it still a dependency or what? Can I fuck off over there.
can we copystrike pewdiepie
it was just a response to the war. as well as the economic recovery effort (old victorian buildings are small and australia needed new high-rises for business), people genuinely felt let down. the british were pushed out of the south pacific almost immediately
in response the government pushed the 'turn to america' during the war and it lasted for a while afterwards. we had to start 'fresh'
>Without any inhibitions of any kind, I make it quite clear that Australia looks to America, free of any pangs as to our traditional links or kinship with the United Kingdom.

probably!
Fuck, sorry, I meant Bermuda

Oh, alright. Doesn't France have some overseas territories aswell. Got a slice of South America I think.
why is the entire country of france in this thread
They're tsundere for us
Yes, french Guyana
La Réunion in the indian ocean is probably the most populated, with ~600k souls
Even the major cities we pretty much left to their own devices.
Basically all funding for all things went to London and fuck everyone else.
20 billion to electrify the entire of the norths rail line so we can use modern trains? Nah to expensive, but crossrail was on 30 billion so maybe we can lay out 35 billion for a second.
Major investment into airports? Keep building on Heathrow. Forget that it's not remotely central and forces everyone into London, paying extortionate London rates, that the locals dont want it and their isn't enough space. Rather than build something bigger and better in the centre of the country, we're guna burn billions on it.
Culture? The North? HA! Just put 90 of all culture spending (arts and theatre etc.) in London. The uncultured brutes won't notice.
Homes?! Theres a housing boom and we need homes!! 20% housing inflation a year! "Er, minister, northern cities need homes too and house prices in the rest of the country are actively deflating, should we act." Didn't you hear me, LONDON! The peasants will be fine in their hovels!
Cost of living increasing in the south? Hum, what's a good policy, ah year, arbitrarily add 5 GRAND to every state employees paycheck in London, the wealth divided isn't big enough! Make London RICHER!
Sad.
Paris attracts most funding too.
My solution was... moving to Paris, though I have no family here (except distant cousins).
Rent is fucking high.
might commit suicide
Centralisation is cancer, we should just copy Germany and federalise.

what is the most british image you have saved?
Wouldn't London still dominate here? You'd have to have some institution that empowers the rest of the states as a check against London.
thoughts lads
>UK retains responsibility for defense and foreign relations
no
canada, nz australia etc. are autonomous states that maintain a spiritual, ceremonial relationship with the UK
whereas overseas territories and dependencies are functionally dependent on the UK while being "technically" nonindependent
two sides of the same coin

Imagine rearing raising and bringing a daughter into the world for her body to be drafted into state sponsored naked women avalanche euthanasia
It's actually pretty obvious to most. Good job coming clean though, it must not be easy to admit that as an Englishman
L-lewd!
I just like Teddy more 'cause he was more manly. Not that Churchill didn't have an adventurous life but it wasn't much compared to Roosevelt.
Now imo Winston was the better writer, and had the fortune of being leader of his country at a much more important time than Theodore, and so naturally was much more important globally and historically, I can't help but think Ted would have been more successful if the roles were reversed.
Also I'm not English I'm Welsh nigga
