Tuga the only french Christians left are the portuguese expats

Thanks.
Honestly the worst was averted, I would've cried if the church collapsed before the firemen managed to save the structure. It's a piece of heritage gone, but we've rebuilt the Reims Cathedral after a fire once. I just hope the renovation will do it justice.

Did famed French philosopher Louis Cachet set fire to Notre Dame?

>Tuga the only french Christians left are the portuguese expats
so Paris is still 90% Christian then lol
very very happy the interior and the relics are saved
don't worry France, it'll be rebuilt!

For what we know it could have been one of your countrymen, fucking tugas live for construction work, you stole all the jobs to the poor Rumanians here

that's mostly the older immigrants, younger immigrants tend to have college degrees and move to EU countries like France, Luxembourg and Germany because wages here are shit
but maybe it was a 50 something year old Portuguese construction worker that fucked it up lol

I love Portugal, but I'm not staying here to enjoy low salaries and constant strikes

Imagine being Fr*nch right now. Imagine seeing your Fr*nch church in flames by some useless construction worker, who took all the jobs from the useless Fr*nch ""people."""

Imagine smelling like STINKY CHEESE and SURRENDERING. Imagine my post if it said anything original. Now, imagine being Fr*nch again and you can resume crying.

I thought it was only an issue in the countryside while Lisbon having a more "european" lifestyle, I also hope I leave this forsaken country in the following years

Sure we'll restore it. The problem is that you can't fabricate antiquity. The 13th century roof is unfortunately lost.

Quite sure they also burned, actually

l'm sad l'll probably never see it irl while l'm alive

what is there to understand? Are there only 12 french citizens? Are you referring to minorites (smaller percentage than yours) who are citizens anyway?

it's not fair
any other building in Paris could have burned, why did it have to be la Notre Dame de Paris?

Attached: sad alisa.jpg (1931x1907, 273K)

Same. I never visited it even though I've been to Paris several times, because I had other things to do and I thought I could go another time. I'm frankly dejected right now.

Attached: 1487692292255.jpg (660x820, 128K)

the relics are saved, the towers are undamaged. It needs a new spire (only 200 years old) and new roof. It will be rebuilt and it will be glorious

GOD HATES THE FRENCH

Well the roof is certainly the biggest loss here; it was a medieval masterpiece. So I hope that whatever they build to replace it will do the cathedral justice.

I never went to Paris as a tourist, that's why. I had to juggle between stuff like visiting family and the places I wanted to see, which was tedious. So I've been to the Louvre, Versailles, the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides, and Notre-Dame was supposed to be next. I messed up.

how important is the Cathedral for French people? how do you rate it on a scale from 1 to 10 bother historically and touristically?

Well you said "both historically and touristically". From a purely touristic standpoint, I'd rank the Mont higher, but Notre-Dame has more historical significance.

I 100% agree, it's not even pretty. Versailles also had some dumb structure that looked out of place right next to the gardens when I visited. It was so useless that I don't even remember what it looked like, and I think they removed it.

l got sad when l heard Nuernberg burned to ashes and the today's one is basically totally rebuilt. also "Nuern" is a Japanese onomatopoeia when you shit, so l associate scatology with the city along with Meistersinger and Nazis

Every city with a pop of +100k was completely razed and most of the architecture that was 'preserved' are Disneyland-tier reconstructions. If you want to see the remains of authentic German architecture you have to go to smaller cities.

>I read until the part they're invited to a ball and Emma falls in love with high society
ok then, l will catch up with you by our special day. Oh, description is definitely Flaubert's forte. Have you ever heard about how obsessive he was about making perfect sentences, with perfect descriptions and stuff, so much that his bin was filled with rough drafts that would make a very fine novel by themselves? He was an absolute perfectionist, more so than any other European author.

l read that he basically packed himself in some rural village with his sister and mother. no wonder he went kinda paranoia and went turbo obsessed with carving and polishing his literary sculpture. it's kinda off topic but there's this famous French literature Japanese scholar 蓮實重彦 Hasumi Shigehiko, and he wrote "On Madame de Bovary" which is made of fugging 2000 pages. l once saw the book and it was thick enough to hit people to death. ca veux dire le roman est assez profond...

>l read that he basically packed himself in some rural village with his sister and mother. no wonder he went kinda paranoia and went turbo obsessed with carving and polishing his literary sculpture.
Yep. Also unrelated to this, it's interesting to note the inspirations that led Flaubert to make the characters of Charles and Emma. His father was a surgeon, so he had a vast knowledge of medicine, allowing him to portray the "médecin incompétent" Charles, and Emma, I think, was based off a short story he read on a journal, and the characters from novels belonging to the romantic movement he once loved, but decided to go against by doing realism.

also when you give some novel a read, do you roughly grasp how the story goes on, how it is reviewed, and what it tries to express by reading book reviews?

Well she's a reader of romantic novels herself, so she's a romanticist in a realistic setting. It's not shitting on it per se but marking a break from the movement, maybe?
>also when you give some novel a read, do you roughly grasp how the story goes on, how it is reviewed, and what it tries to express by reading book reviews?
Only after I'm done reading it. I try to learn about the author a bit before reading though, it obviously ensures that you have a better understanding of the book. What about you?

Attached: 1538671713945.png (800x1185, 746K)

>Well she's a reader of romantic novels herself, so she's a romanticist in a realistic setting. It's not shitting on it per se but marking a break from the movement, maybe?

>Only after I'm done reading it. I try to learn about the author a bit before reading though, it obviously ensures that you have a better understanding of the book.

unless it's entertainment, l make it a rule to grasp how a story starts, goes on and finally ends, and then give read book reviews, and start reading it at last, as for me entity of a book has a meaning in every chapter, and without knowing what l stated above, it's a bit hard to "integrate" the whole part of the book. without them l tend to read a book brokenly, ending up understanding it less efficiently.

although l said so, not even knowing Madame de Bovary likes to read romantic novels contradicts my statement lol

>l make it a rule to grasp how a story starts, goes on and finally ends, and then give read book reviews
I think that's the correct way to go about it. The most important thing is to have your own reading of the book, and then you can complete with what critics and reviewers have to say, but it's completely optional.
>as for me entity of a book has a meaning in every chapter, and without knowing what l stated above, it's a bit hard to "integrate" the whole part of the book. without them l tend to read a book brokenly, ending up understanding it less efficiently.
Hmm, well I can't say I've ever felt that way about chapters. I've always thought that their significance depended on the novel and on the author. But that's an interesting way to see it.

Attached: 1549305590036.jpg (394x394, 31K)

>Hmm, well I can't say I've ever felt that way about chapters. I've always thought that their significance depended on the novel and on the author.
l think "every chapter" is a bit exaggerated, l should've said "the beginning, the middle part and the ending". well although l said l tend to acquire preliminary knowledge, it's basically a bit more than the outline of Wikipedia article on some book after all. and good book reviews are good guidance for deepening my understanding while l am in the process of reading it, but it depends on people after all... in fact the way of my perusal is pretty different.

Nice. It's the only epistolary novel I've read other than Lettres persanes, and it tackles the themes of libertinage/decadence in the French nobility right before the Revolution. So I'm sure it'll interest you.
