Would you consider the Nordic languages (excluding Finland) to be completely separate languages from one another, or would you consider them to be dialects of an umbrella Nordic language?
Bonus question: Would you consider Scots a dialect of English or a language separate from English?

They speak dialects of Old Norse.

This, we would have united like Germsny or Italy aswell but Swedish cuckdom prevented it

Danish, Norwegian and Swedish are dialects, but Icelandic and other languages diverged from them a lot

the most based Scandinavian language is finland-swedish because it's pretty much Swedish from the 1300's

There are three nordic langugages:
Faroese, icelandic and mainlandian.

Scots and english are also the same langugage.

Norwegian bokmål might be close to just a danish dialect, but other than that no two Nordic languages are close enough, maybe with the exception of icelandic and faroese, I wouldnt know.

Where else does the insular Nordic languages get their influence from? Would Faroese in particular have influence from Norn?

It's never too late, broder

Norwegian Bokmål, Swedish and Danish are all dialects of an Eastern Norse language.
Norwegian Nynorsk, Icelandic and Faroese are all dialects of a Western Norse language, with Icelandic being the closest to the original deal.

We have developed to distinct languages by being isolated islands for 1300 years. Also some old irish from slaves, and english(maybe scots, since it's closer) from traders.

Most of you won't care, but to those of you that do:

The Norwegian general is currently being beseiged by an insane paranoid schizo Norwegian who we have dubbed "Sutreanon". Sutreanon will stop at nothing, literally nothing, to crash /norgetråden/ into the ground and eventually get it permabanned due to breaking too many board rules.
You are all here because he invited you.
He's a turbo autist of the worst sort.
Every single time it's time to make a new /norgetråden/ (yes, every single time) he's there to disrupt by making 5+ new editions to make the janny delete the rightful thread.

Sutreanon is most likely the source of all the norwegian cuckposting in /skandi/ and the other scandinavian generals.
Sutreanon is, as mentioned, a paranoid schizo and will not hesitate to have a conversation with himself for hours, use multiple VPNs with tripcodes to fuck with everyone, and generally try to crash /norgetråden/ with no survivors.

Please don't accept his invitation when he posts in your generals. Thank you.

um, I am a true Gael thank you very much

Are you implying it's somehow wrong to trash generals?

Gå nu hjem Sutreanon, vi ved godt det er dig

>Would you consider Scots a dialect of English or a language separate from English?
Scots and modern English developed from the same language. One can therefore not be a dialect of the other.

I can say as a norwegian that i have more trouble understanding some dialects in norway than standard swedish.

A language is just a dialect with an army and a navy behind it.

I'm sorry?

I'm no linguist but Swedish, Norwegian and Danish all look more or less the same to me on page, though they have different accents and vocabulary.

Icelandic is ancient Norse that has changed very little, for example your average Icelander can read 1000 year old manuscripts with relative ease.

Faroese is similar to Icelandic but with more Danish influence I believe.

Finnish is weird and undecipherable

Based and vikingpilled

this, just look at the lexical distance between the dialects. to put this into consideration the lexical distance of spanish and portuguese is 11.

Also Nordic people and other people in general love to exagerate how difficult it is to understand each other usually for banter reasons and arrogance , for example " le danes and le potato in le mouth meme XD"

But I ask you this in what other langauages can a person go to a foreign talk show and speak his language and be understood and understand all the questions?

literally only dialects are capable of this

forgot to explain the video, the little grill is swedish and went to a norwegian talk show

but didnt danish come before soydish?

I support your claim.
Here's a video showing swedish and danish politicians discussing the refugee crisis in their respective languages

But problem just is, scandis are lazy and most aren't used to listening to the other languages, so they just brush it off as "HURR I DON'T UNDERSTAND SWEDISH/NORWEGIAN/DANISH"
