Coffee was actually more like the drink for philosophers. Volitare drank more than 40 cups a day I believe. Kant used to get angry about having to wait 3 minutes for his after dinner coffee. Hume drank coffee like a fat man (which he was). Kierkegaard was an avid coffee drinker too I believe.
>Hume drank coffee like a fat man (which he was).
Coffee has quite few calories.
Comparing apples and oranges.

Coffee should be taken in moderation. Tea is favorably better since the amount of caffeine in tea is marginally lower than a cup of coffee.
If you are planning to lose weight then drink only one cup of coffee with a brown sugar packet and without creamer.

Coffee is actually one of the few beverages/foodstuffs that counts as negative calories. The only calories that go into it are the ones you add to it (i.e. milk/sugar).

>The earliest credible evidence of coffee-drinking or knowledge of the coffee tree appears in the middle of the 15th century in the accounts of Ahmed al-Ghaffar in Yemen.[6] It was here in Arabia that coffee seeds were first roasted and brewed, in a similar way to how it is prepared now. Coffee was used by Sufi circles to stay awake for their religious rituals.[18]
