I know that it's not that much of an issue (just a loss of some glans sensitivity) and that most probably it's done because of infant's hygiene/risk of phimosis, not because these medics are brainwashed religious zealots who do this because Jesus was circumcised. But this combination of not giving a choice ("well it's a standard procedure") and doubtless insisting on it ("that's what we do here, lady") somehow makes my blood boil.

Being a doctor is a very hard job. People don't just do it for the money; you have to be dedicated to it.
My family is ethnically Jewish, and when I heard I was becoming an uncle I was so damn relieved to hear that the scan showed it was a baby girl. If I become an uncle to a nephew I'll make sure to show the truth to my sibling/in-law before the kid is born, and I'll strangle anyone who brings a knife to the kid.

In cases where the parents consent to it, that's seen as valid since parents can consent to their kids getting other medical procedures. It's not taken into account that circumcision is usually unnecessary and is disrespectful to the child's bodily autonomy.

They probably are taught that circumcision is healthier for the baby. I've heard many people repeat that without questioning it.

1. The doctors are circumcised, so there's a psychological need for them to impose it on other people.
2. They make a hell of a lot of money doing circumcisions.
3. They're Jewish/Muslim.

Some of it might be due to them hearing about how beneficial circumcision supposedly is (some people are genuinely obsessed with proving this and do dozens of dishonest studies on it), and some of it might be due to them getting paid to do it. It's not the only time that doctors have made serious errors though; until the 1980s babies didn't receive anesthesia during surgery because a lot of doctors didn't think that babies could feel pain.
