If you passed you could find yourself one day being a pig farmer and the next being in the imperial bureaucracy. Just like negro Americans see sports as a way out of the hood, getting good grades on tests is seen as the way out of poverty for poor Asians

I think the west value action more than knownledge, and you must do to know, so that is why while they have little knownledge beforehand and do worse in test but they are ways superior in Action. (Nobel prizes and inventions)
