I studied in Austria and it was refreshing not seeing constant "WHITE PEOPOE EVIL, BLACKS DIDNU NUFFIN", constant shootings/drug overdoses etc. Austria is so beautiful and peaceful, amazing public transit, I used to drive 1 hour to the grocery store in America but in Austria I could walk. There's a lack of identity, a lack of a solid culture, a lack of community and there's also a lack of stronger family ties. Here in Colombia we can be violent, poor and shit like that, but most of us are happy.
And that's simply because we always have a group of people where we can always feel indentified and accepted, a food and music that nobody can copy or make better, heck, even a bunch of clothes that identifiy ourselves by region, a large and beloved family to hold our back without an age limit and without any shame, random people who are always willing to speak with you and give you advice. There's hope, that thing is like a fuel for happy societies, even if our country is a complete mess.

There's also a problem with cities in the US, these seem to be made mostly for cars, not for people! Going out on a bike to a random town and drinking a coffee while speaking with anybody in a random plaza is a non existent activity in the US.
Mostly because it is dangerous and illegal to go with your bike in a highway and because there are no plazas, no communal spaces. Most Americans live alone inside cities of millions, they have to make long journeys inside a car to buy anything, they live depressed and in constant search of an identity. For me that explains their degeneration as a community, the rise of drug consumption as well as the rise of idiotic groups like those of the feminism, racism, LGTB communities filled with "smugglypuff" types of people, extravagant, aggressive and kinda degenerate groups like those of the hillbillies and large gangs inside the black communities.

On a serious note. Understand the underlying reason for that. It's all economics/finance and its cyclical nature. We are living at the end of a debt supercycle, very difficult period. Just like the 30s-40s of the last century. All the debt accumulated throughout decades must be wiped out, as they call it "deleveraging". What happened in Greece and other "lesser" countries will happen in developed countries, too. Bankruptcies, defaults, restructuring, cuts and stuff like that.
And here's where politics come into play, to divert attention from underlying reasons and blame everything on some manufactured bullshit like political crisis, social conflicts and even wars. They bombard your brain with this honk shit to keep you completely disoriented.

A strong, rich, and notable culture has a large potential to convert people.
Let me explain; those Europeans who migrated in mass to the US in the past found a new strong sense of community, in those good old days, they stopped being Italians, English, French, Scottish and Irish. They all became Americans, whatever was good of their own cultures just added up and mixed inside that of the Americans.
They all felt inspired and identified by the sense of growth and proudness of those who where dreaming with big cities and ideal families. By the amazing and danceable music coming from the black communities. The country had a bunch of troubles and was poorer back then but that didn't matter.

Nowadays there's none of that, just a bunch of depressed people believing that they are the center of the world, a bunch of luxury and comfort, but no real identity or happiness.
Subcultures prevail and whatever was good is disappearing.

So immigrants come in mass because they all want a better economy, but they find a cold and boring society, so, as there's not much to feel identified with, their cultures still prevail, it is the only thing that gives them some kind of hope. And they never mix, they just milk the money cow and rather build up a new community, like is happening with the Latinos in Miami... They aren't Americans nor Mexicans nor colombians anymore, they are "Latinos"...

It tends to happen with Jews and Muslims too. And nowadays also with Africans.

Another example can be seen with colonialism, those who populated the US territory where know because many ended up joining the native tribes, they got bored of how the English empire where treating them and rather identified with the principles of the poorer, less advanced and troubled tribes. Because these peoples where somehow happier; so, again, they stopped being English and ended up becoming like the indigenous, whatever was good of their own societies was the only thing that remained and some of that ended up being added up to those of the Native Americans.

After our independence, many Muslims and Arabs arrived to Colombia, all of them where accepted and mixed somehow with the catholics. There's not really a strong Muslim community in Colombia and nowadays and we only have a bunch of delicious food as a leftover of them.
