When I was in highschool we had foreign students almost all the time from a lot of countries (UK, Germany, Spain, Poland, Québec, Japan, China, Australia, etc...) so I saw a lot of nationalities there, and I can say japanese are the worst, with the only exception of the Chinese. They were the only ones who did not try to speak French at all, were always on their phones, barely responded when you said hello in their own language, and legit tried to steal shit from us (the chinese were basically the same, except even worse because they would leave trash everywhere, and yelled shit in their retarded language loudly).

Got offered a '''''scholarship''''' due to my grades in Japanese class from highschool. Basically just my accommodation, food and photocopies were paid for. Yeah a fuckin 2 decade old textbook and a truckload of passive aggression sure is worth cutting a year out of my life. I lost a ridiculous amount of weight because they didn't feed me enough so I started to have to supplement my diet with convenience store crap quite early in or I would've died. Ah yer i getcha now, i'm probably just confused because back when i was in high school i used be in enrolled in a pretty rural shit-tier high school with pretty much no opportunities like that, only thing we ever got to something special like that was that if you continued doing mandatory german from yr 8 to year 12 (stopped being mandatory by year 10, just the way the queensland curriculum works) you got to go to berlin at the end of yr 12.
Only got my year 12 certificate tho and a couple of Cert II's, didn't even get an OP (ATAR in the rest of the states) because i didn't want to go to uni at the time. worst mistake of my life.

Customs was basically don't be a retard or appear selfish, but also don't be too standoffish when genuine attempts are being made to become friendlier with you. Also don't piss off the host sister because she is just WAITING for you to fuck up like when you don't finish dinner one day so she picks a fight with you on the 8am express train through the middle of the the fucking city while surrounded by classmates and makes it sound like you're a completely rude piece of shit
