Damn sorry nebraskabro, my parents were ultra poor and i ended up not doing any schooling either, no public school or homeschool. Luckily i picked up reading pretty fast, i taught my little brother how to read and basic do basic math, it was a struggle considering i was a young dumbass, some people suck at that stuff even with a regular teacher. He was definitely at a low level for his age throughout his kid/teen years but he is atleast competent/functional now. One of the few things im proud of when i think back on my fucked up life.
And sorry youre stuck in nebraska, not trying to talk shit but that state is truly awful. Ive never gotten to see any of the nicer nature parts but ive visited omaha and some other small places that are along I-80 a few times.

People who don't graduate from high school normally get a GED--an equivalency diploma. I don't know the details.

It is mandatory but hard to enforce i guess. There are lots of forgetton kids out there. Never had child services show up or anything. I think homeschool kids get official tests through some programs that they have to complete and send to the state or something. The state knew i existed but they cant keep tabs on everyone.

That's really sad. I hope the anons who missed out on their high school degree get a second chance! Here, you can take evening classes to obtain a school degree as an adult, even one which allows you to enter an university. Some poor immigrants do that here, they work during the day in some simple job, e.g. at the gas station, and go to school afterwards.

Yeah, i grew up in the ghetto in illinois and there were quite a few kids who couldnt go to school in my neighborhood, but it is the ghetto so the city/court doesnt give a single fuck. Probably too late for me to truly grad highschool now (im 29 lol) but i got my GED when i was 19 so i wasn't THAT unemployable. Job applications do have their ways to separate the people who graduated highschool and those with geds though, they say they are equal, but you're still forced to tell employers which one you've got and gives them the choice who to hire. (Hmmm the dropout, or the graduate, such a hard decision!)

Can you apply to learn a trade ? Like nurse or mechanic or sth like that? Sometimes you get paid during your apprenticeship.
