That's the total number of religiously unaffiliated Americans. Only a small proportion of them are atheists

I never discussed religion in my life until I went to college and my friends asked me if I was Catholic and I said I was atheist. They literally couldn't believe it and I couldn't believe that they cared so much. For a while they started making fun of me like saying "bless satan" when I sneezed or calling me out when I said phrases like "thank god" or "jesus christ".

Never knew people actually cared about that stuff.

They asked me and I told them. Religion has never been a part of my life and I never brought it up. Even when I was in school and everybody would be talking about communions and confirmations and I had no idea what they were on about.

I live in one of the 12% states. It's never really been an issue being an atheist. I think most Americans detest organized religion even if they like God.

Literally never talked about religion with anyone until I got online when I was like 15-16.
No one is religious here.
