I'm not kidding. I'm an Anglophone transplant in Montreal. Just got a new apartment in Rosemont and holy fuck these are literally the trashiest people I've ever encountered in my life. Rural Americans don't even come close, and I say that as someone who spent six months living in Florida and another three months living in Pennsyltucky. For one thing, they all sound like American hicks speaking French. The girls are mostly wiggers who dress in horribly gaudy clothing. The men are weak as hell. Also most of the girls in their mid-20s whom I've encountered are already single moms. My neighbourhood is entirely made up of imitation designer brand shops, sports bars, and fake-ass "French" boulangeries where the croissants alone can give you diabetes.
The only thing keeping me here is the low cost of living. Vancouver is a nightmare in terms of expenses.
Can some Canadians confirm this. I was thinking about moving to Quebec after college to get immersed in French, but this sounds awful.
John Reed
The strength of the selection process through survival of the richest also seems to have varied depending on the circumstances of settled agrarian societies. Thus in the frontier conditions of New France (Quebec) in the seventeenth century where land was abundant, population densities low, and wages extremely high the group that reproduced most successfully was the poorest and the most illiterate.208 The more stable a society was, the less reproductive success could be attained by war and conquest, the more chance these mechanisms had to operate. maybe thats why
Jack Long
Southern Montreal is all Anglo. Just move there instead.
Josiah Sanchez
I lived 2 years in Brossard and can confirm this
Kevin Lee
I live in Rosemont kek. It’s a working class Quebecois neighbourhood that’s been gentrified in the last couple of years so it’s 1/3 white trash, 1/3 young well to do families and 1/3 hipsters Don’t know why OP is fixated on the white trash contingent, he might live in a poorer area of the neighbourhood that’s further away from the plateau
Asher Lopez
I live near Old Rosemont. Parts of it are gentrified but Promenade Masson looks identical to an American beach boardwalk, i.e. tacky clothing stores and sports bars.
Michael Bell
Masson is disgusting though, I actively avoid it. You realize Rosemont is a poor neighbourhood, right? if you want nice gentrified shopping just walk the 10 minutes to laurier-est
Angel Torres
It's cheap to live here though. 700 CAD per month in Rosemont vs.1200 CAD in the Plateau isn't much of a choice.
Anthony Long
*2200 CAD in the Plateau
Caleb Kelly
Montreal is the worst city I've ever driven through. I spent less than 30 minutes in the city on 2 separate occasions, amd both times I bore witness to a total of 3 accidents, all done through sheer incompetence. The merging between the collector's lane and the express is done by a ramp of two lanes, but there are no painted lane markers on the ground for some reason, so everytbing grinds to a halt because you have people everywhere trying to shove in. It was also filthy, but then again i didn't drive through the touristy areas. From all I've seenz the city is only worth a shit if you're there to get drunk, gamble or get hpv
Quebec City's oldtown was very nice though.
Alexander Garcia
Infrastructure here is terrible. All the major roads are either full of potholes or are undergoing massive amounts of construction to repair their potholes.
Jackson Jones
it really rubbed me the wrong way, I wanted to like it but it's clear that the city is not for people like me. By the way, what the fuck is wrong with your drivers? Is licensing in Quebec different than Onterrible? Because somehow the lunatics in downtown Montreal are somehow worse than Toronto, and that's already scraping the bottom
>they all sound like american hicks speaking french
This so much kek
Mason Wright
I've been to the hick parts of France as well and can confirm the Quebec accent is by far the ugliest to listen to.
Connor Cruz
>rosemont >gentrified Hein?
Wyatt Stewart
...
Aaron Green
The part around Little Italy (might as well be called "Little Portugal" because there's way more Portuguese than actual Italians) and the Beaubien station is entirely hipster.
Gentrification is like a cancer cell in that it spreads further and further out. The parts near the Plateau and Mile End are obviously undergoing gentrification.
Matthew Russell
That's Petite-Patrie not Rosemont proper.
Christian Ross
its exactly like st henri and the sud ouest in general the only only real working class people left are boomers and when they die it will become 100% yuppie middle class similar to the demographics, the commercial makeup of the neighbourhood is a mix between depanneurs run by immigrants (the bread and butter of commercial streets in montreal) and yuppie boutique hairdressers and pubs and restaurants overall its 7/10 could be surrounded by arabs or africans instead so life is all right i live in western rosemont and my street is full of young fags and has like half a dozen french expats property prices are still undervalued in relation to the location, but they will inflate in the next decade or so
laurier is beyond the pale
Ryder Peterson
>has like half a dozen french expats It's not unusual to see French flags hanging off the balconies of the apartments in Old Rosemont. Do you know how many of these Froggies are undocumented? I've heard most of them overstay their visas but get a free pass because they blend in.
Jose Butler
I'd take undoc'd french over permanent resident arabs.
Wyatt Russell
why are there so many arabs in montreal?
Easton Gray
The Lebanese, Palestinians, and Egyptians are all pretty chill.
It's the Moroccans and the Algerians who are batshit insane. (I include the Moroccan Jews in CSL as well.)
Justin Wilson
why are quebecois cucks? why do they allow their hoods to be gentrified
Dominic Scott
They don't. Anarkiddies in Hochelaga have staged protests against condos, for instance.
Christopher Hernandez
Liberal party needs votes.
Jonathan Jackson
>It's the Moroccans and the Algerians who are batshit insane. what do they do?
Jason Diaz
>The Lebanese, Palestinians, and Egyptians are all pretty chill. also, are these groups mostly christian like in the us?
Justin Wood
Mostly Muslim but I've never had an issue with them.
Moroccans and Algerians are either Muslims or Jews, Moroccan Jews live in a little enclave Côte-St-Luc and are as fucked in the head as Muslim Moroccans. But they're all going to move to Israel and live in the settlements within a few years anyway.
Jace Parker
you should see gatineau
god i fucking hate this city. granted, not every sector is awful but mine is pretty bad.
Adam Davis
anglos do NOT know how to drive
fuck them
Bentley James
What do you mean by bad?
Cameron James
i went to the high school with the most drug abuse problems apparently. no one who went there ever graduated.
we literally have a family of indians that's known inbreeding and stealing shit. literally everyone is a fucking anglo that lives on welfare
Aaron Gonzalez
>implying there is a major party that is not pro immigration
Julian Lewis
this thread again? sage
Lincoln Sanders
Quebecois on here say Montreal is shit and full of Anglos though. I think Quebec City is where the creme of the crust Quebecois live.
Alexander Perez
The Plateau is nice but Ave Mont-Royal looks like shit. I think there's more panhandlers there than on Ste. Catherine's.
Luis Brooks
Really?
Kevin Smith
If the other drivers don't kill you, the potholes will.
Juan James
Most anglos and French are white trash. Only non white trash euros are Eastern European immigrants and their second generation spawn, as well as southern euros except for Greeks and Portuguese who are basically gypsies.
Liam Gonzalez
>I think Quebec City is where the creme of the crust Quebecois live. kek no the elite of quebec live in outremont and westmount and some other wealthy neighbourhoods in the greater montreal region the only institutions which draw elite level people are the provincial government and laval university. it is important, definitely but montreal is the nexus of quebec, and all that entails (shitty immigrant ghetto neighbourhoods)
Kevin Torres
the only things which draw elite people to quebec city*
Austin Adams
Casse-toi anglo.
Hudson Perez
He's baiting, it's completely wrong. Listening to the opinion of an Anglo Canadian about Québec is the dumbest thing you could do.
Jaxon Murphy
can anglo canadians and quebecois distinguish each other from looks alone
Lucas Lee
there's a reason anglos are referred to as squareheads
Colton Long
isn't squarehead a word for boring
Eli Perry
all anglos i ever made have an almost perfectly cubed head
Isaiah Campbell
What does the average quebecois look like?
Michael Miller
pretty hard to say when you live among them
Carson Morgan
>laval university ???
Isaac Davis
université laval the breeding ground of french canadian élite
Adrian Russell
the most beautiful woman i met in my life was a Quebecois working in the ASIC in Afghanistan. I wish I approached her. She was immaculate.
William Diaz
Most French nationals in Montreal are from the poorer parts of France like Aquitaine.
Aaron Turner
Pennsyltuckey is based, though.
Liam Gutierrez
Ouremont will be entirely Hasidic soon enough.
Juan Sullivan
When I was in the army a group of Canadian Jewish tourists came to my outpost, I gave them a sort of tour as the commander with the best English in the outpost, they gave us hats of some sports team (would post a pic but i'm at work right now) and at the end they literally applauded us for protecting Israel as if I wasn't lying down watching the television before they came. Canadians a cute, CUTE!
James Wood
Merci!
Michael Cruz
anglo subhuman jealous of the quebecois bvll
Austin Fisher
only Canadian I knew was a very unlikeable quebecian
Jack Price
What's there to be jealous of?
Justin Russell
What do Q girls want ? how to fuck in Montreal ?
James Robinson
>poorer parts of France like Aquitaine kek
Cooper Sullivan
How can you find them attractive with that accent
James Ramirez
wtf are you talking about, I used to have a nice lil 3 1/2 in the plateau for 800, to myself. pretty primo location too
Cooper Long
I thought southwest France was a shithole?
Brody Sanders
When was this? All the apartments on Louer.com for the Plateau average at 900-2000 CAD.
Charles Bailey
Left town in 2017. It was still a pretty good deal at the time, that I snapped up as soon as I saw it.
