Ooooh I get it why they call it Peking now...
P(alace) [of the] E(ternal) King
why would anyone call it peking
Because that's it's name
We actually call it pequim
it's not
It literally is
PeKANGZ
do you say every city using their original language or did you just find out it was called Peking?
German name is Peking
No I don't, that's why I don't use "Beijing". Peking is the English name
BTFO
Because it's called like that? your don't even know the name of your own country's capital?
>be 19th century
>Europeans create a romanji for Chinese
>It says Peking
>CCP saves China
>Create a better romanji
>It's now translated as Beijing
BTFO
Beijing also works as an english name, on top of it actually being correct. The name of the city is BEIJING
We call it Pekin
>mfw it's Pequim(Peking) in Portuguese
>mfw Guangzhou is Cantão(Canton) in Portuguese
>mfw Taiwan is called Formosa in Portuguese
why did anglos change the way they call these places again?
Yeah in the same way the name of Dublin is Baile Átha Cliath. Why wouldn't you use the English name if you speak English?
On maps and in books and to laymen Beijing is a common English name for it. Nobody outside of Ireland calls Dublin that. Because Beijing is a common name for the city among english speakers, it is a correct english name. That's how language works.
peking is wade-giles
beijing is pinyin
Manchu and northern people influences.
How do they call 北京 in Cantonese?
We call it Pekin (Пeкин)
Bak ging
You mean Peijing
I like how Peking sounds a lot more. And because I am speaking English and not Chinese, I see no reason to stop saying it
Collapse of the British empire.
that's basically rap music with exaggerated intonation
A lot of the old romanization of Chinese words comes from Cantonese because Guangzhou was the only open port during Qing isolationism. More Cantonese words came into the western world eith HK and Macau (both Cantonese speaking) became European colonies. CCP has been trying to erase all these old words and standardize on Mandarin because gommunism :DDD
not true, older system is also from mandarin
Then how do you explain so many words being closer to Cantonese than Mandarin prior to CCP standardisation?
it's not, also it wasn't ccp, in terms of phonetics it is the same as the taiwanese one
the purpose of language is communication. if you said peking instead of beijing nobody would know what the fuck you're talking about because it isn't the common name, you're just an idiot who wants to appear smart with trivial base level historical knowledge
Taiwanese use the term Peking?
Most of pro-Chiang people are almost indentical to modern mandarin though?
Yeah I have no idea what this nigga is saying. You speak Cantonese, vietbro?
Wasnt Mao Zedong 'mao tse tung'?
cannot unhear
>You speak Cantonese, vietbro?
Just a little bit, bro
no. Correct latinization is Mao Zedong.
Japan calls it Peking too
English is just cucked it seems
there are like ten different pronounciations for the Name depending on what part of China it is read in, as the same characters are spelled differently in several regions but always amount to the same thing.
Regardless, Chang'an is the true and rightful Capital of China, and all the Peijink pigdog Dynasties that have been set up in that godforsaken wasteland are obviously afraid of the true Imperial Ancestor Spirits protecting the legitimate Capital from their usurper dogshit hands

needs brrrrrraaaa adlibs before the chorus sets in
Firstly, plenty of people know what Peking is, just because your sheltered ass hasn't heard of it before, doesn't mean no one else has. Secondly I'm not trying to appear smart, i'm curious as to why this particular city is not always called by it's English name, rather it's native name. Peking and Bombay are the only two cities I know of where this seems to happen
Pékin.
This hurt to read
You're such a fucking pseud
>wahh you said something I don't like
Blow me, mutt
You are such a retard holy shit
Do more than 2 minutes worth of research on english exonyms and you would have an answer to your shitty thread
>Blow me, mutt
Go suck a dogs cock faggot, it's legal in Canada after all
Is it really necessary to get this asshurt over the name of a city? Seeth all you want to I suppose...
