On maps and in books and to laymen Beijing is a common English name for it. Nobody outside of Ireland calls Dublin that. Because Beijing is a common name for the city among english speakers, it is a correct english name. That's how language works.

A lot of the old romanization of Chinese words comes from Cantonese because Guangzhou was the only open port during Qing isolationism. More Cantonese words came into the western world eith HK and Macau (both Cantonese speaking) became European colonies. Secondly I'm not trying to appear smart, i'm curious as to why this particular city is not always called by it's English name, rather it's native name.
