Media bias i guess? Obama for example was mostly portrayed as a good guy while trump is bad etc. It slowly seeps into the mind of people and they they automatically become democrats. Also many people absolutely loathe the pro gun stance that reps supposedly have (despite them never really trying to reverse any kind of gun control). I know many people that were heavily pro Clinton, a former co-worker of mine constantly said that he has family in America and that he wants to make sure that they vote for Clinton instead of Trump.
