Only in wars of aggression fought overseas. When the country actually needs to defend itself on its land, able-bodied men in ages 18-40-something are drafted.
That's how it happened in the last world wars.

In a war of defense is exactly the time when you need to worry about your current standing army. The invading force isn't going to sit around waiting for you to draft a bunch of kids and give them some training. Even if it's a minimum amount like maybe a few weeks, that's enough time for the invading army to wreck your country if they know what they are doing.

Most real wars last months or even years. If both parties want to fight.

You're still drafted from day one, and eventually you will fight on the frontlines, that's why the whole "they'll fight for you when needed" is retarded, because I'll be required to fight too.

In our war with Indonesia (which took place after WW2) we used our military for offensive missions. While we kept drafting new people to serve as patrols in areas we already conquered.

They're not highly mountainous countries hard where the maquis can be effective, they're mostly flat countries where you can send the tanks everywhere (especially the Netherland).

Greece literally beat back a two times larger and technologically superior italian force and pushed it back, the germans exploited that and rolled over them. Hitler literally said that the greek soldiers were the most courageous and effective he had ever encountered. Both wars cost resources to the axis that saved hundreds of thousands of Soviet lives in the Eastern Front (aka the only battle that counts). Noone was sure at the outcome of the war, britain expected russia to fall quickly. So you're telling me weakening the nazis in their eventual war with Russia was not a good reason to at least show some semblance of resistance or not be a nazi cum puppet? Please. And the surrender had nothing to do with terrain and more to do with their cultural/racial proximity to germany and fear of being punished. France has an excuse in that they were absolute retards that focused on building a wall of turrets instead of modernising their military like the germans did. And the germans simply circumvented the wall and rolled over them.

Canada pays lip service to the military on November 11th but otherwise nobody gives a fuck about the military here, not even the government.
