Under Xi, I don't see a way forward for Democracy or even moderate political reform. China is going backwards. It's pretty sad to see, I would love to visit China one day but how can one visit a place without a shred of rule of law? A Chinese policeman can just pull out a bag of weed or a bullet and say it was yours and you're going to Chinese prison because there is no real court system with checks and balances. The most likely thing we will see in our lifetime is a reformed Chinese court system where business contracts can be enforced properly because everyone knows a contract signed in mainland China isn't worth the paper it's written on. China loses a lot of money due to their shitty court system and they know this so perhaps in our lifetime we may see a semi independent judiciary but I don't see any more reform occuring than that.

Maybe when their economy implodes. Till then, probably not.
