'Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says #IndyRef2 should happen before end of current parliament in 2021, saying it is "our route to avoiding the worst of the damage #Brexit will do"'
>BUT AT WHAT COST AT FUCKIN THATCHER Fuck up. You’ll still be a scrounging loser whether we’re in the UK or not. Go munch on a pizza crunch and die of a stroke already, you fat fenian subhuman.
>We don't have to wait behind any other countries. If we meet the criteria, we join. that was what Turkey was saying 15 years ago :^)
Gavin Smith
Turkey isn't in the EU because the UK lobbied against it, and because of frequent human rights/free speech violations that go against the criteria for joining. Not because they had to wait for Croatia to join first.
Isaiah Reed
Does Scotland even deserve independence when they voted NO the last time they had the opportunity?
Charles Thompson
Different Scotland. A lot of the peopled who voted no last time were old, a lot of them are probably dead by now.
Elijah Cook
>tfw you will see Scotland become independent in your life >tfw you will see Northern Ireland annexed by Ireland in your life >tfw you will se Britain become a crumbling economic disaster, seething about its former glory
what would its government be? a socialist republic?
Logan Miller
We're going to be setting up citizens conventions to hammer out a constitution.
James Bailey
fucking snp won't take the matter to a court and get them to say outright that scotland doesn't need permission from westminster to hold another referendum all this waffling about won't do anything ffs
That's a really big risk, though support for independence hasn't actually risen appreciably despite everything going wrong for the union, and if we do a catalonia spain WILL veto, unless they have a civil war again and get kicked out the eu
Dominic Walker
the tam is pretty based tho
Blake Mitchell
Aye, but these fuckers just watched Braveheart and think they're geniuses because their mum told them about how horrible Thatcher was.
They'd be basederer if they weren't on Irish LARPers.
I think most peoplehave simply been waiting to see how Brexit actually turns out. Once we get a resolution, and once the reality of the situation sets in I think we can and will see some big shifts, particularly with a competent campaign.
I think it's incredibly unlikely we'd actually do a Catalonia desu.
Matthew Evans
We don't think we're geniuses. We just think we're smarter than you, because we don't support the monarchy, Brexit, or Sevco.
I'd agree with you, but the events of the last half decade have shown beyond doubt that the voting population is willing to believe anyone telling them that what they voted for is actually the fault of the EU Still, I hope you're right
We have a Tory government because England voted for them in a landslide, and they got over the line by going into an unofficial coalition with the DUP.
Cameron Ward
hardly the SNP won a landslide that was unsustainable and honestly shouldn't have been that big of a win in the first place, just a ridiculous outcome that still sounds far too good for the SNP to be true the tories, lib dem and labour regaining seats in the last elections and probably in the ones coming are just things normalising Not to say that they deserve those votes, but it's how it is
Christopher Campbell
Most of the polls I've seen suggest Lab and the Tories losing seats in Scotland.
The loss in 2017 was probably more down to complacent SNP voters after the landslide last time. Our turnout was slightly lower than normal, if I recall.
Ayden Myers
But England always votes Tory, Scotland never does, and always unsults England for doing it. At the last election they got the largest number of votes they've ever gotten in Scotland, by a long, long way. If those votes hadn't gone to the Tories, they wouldn't have been able to make a governemt, even with the DUP.
Luke Thomas
hopefully, but a centre right government would take a harder line on this specific issue than sanchez though
Jack Wilson
The Tories wouldn't have gotten in if it wasn't due to overwhelming English support and the DUP. They picked up some votes in Scotland, but were still comfortably beaten by the SNP. End of.
Brandon Thomas
>hey picked up some votes in Scotland Yeah, fucking 12 instead of 1. Scotland has forever lost it's right to accuse England of letting the Tories in. This time it was your fault.
Christopher Edwards
Not to mention Scotland voted Labour almost as much as it voted Tory.
>you're a country of lying, snivelling, backstabbing cowards You're lot are like a dysfunctional family lol
Jaxson White
Prove me wrong you mewling shit.
Stop blaming us for the party your country voted for. Especially when your opposition damn well told its Scottish supporters to vote Tory to keep the SNP out.
James Adams
people in Scotland think you are part of their family
Blake Brown
>At one point, the First Minister travelled to London to make the case for what effectively formed the basis of Tory backbencher, Nick Boles’ Norway Plus model, which envisaged that Britain could leave the EU but remain in the single market.
>But when that proposal eventually got to the House of Commons some Scottish National Party MPs refused to back it.
The SNP abstained, which is markedly different to voting against it they also put up a movement to do exactly what parliament had voted to do ie take no deal off the table by making the default fallback no brexit rather than no deal, which failed because of l*bour Boles' idea didn't protect EU citizens in scotland nor vice versa, nor did it ensure free movement, or anything that the SNP has put down as one of the hardline "we need this" since to remove it would be to condemn scotland to a slow death of workforce drain
Isaac Lopez
Why is Sturgeon do fucking thirsty for an independent Scotland? I honestly believe she exclusively masturbates to Mel Gibson's Braveheart. It is no longer a political stance for her, it's an obsession that won't die. All I can figure is that she is an overly ambitious and aggressively vain person who really wants to go down in history as "the Mother of Scotland," and the first president of the Scottish nation. She wants it so fucking bad that she is blind to any instability, costs, or consequences, her ambition might cause. Why can't Scots see her for what she is?
>it's the SNP's fault labour told their base to vote for the tories
Owen Reed
England is kinda like an abusive alcoholic.
"Why aren't you saving us from my own poor choices, you selfish cunt?"
Cameron Thompson
what
Owen Diaz
Spoken like a try pseudo-Yank.
Christopher Hall
>Why can't Scots see her for what she is? Nationalism is a hell of a drug, and the Jocks are raised from birth to resent their English ***oppressors****. It's an easy gimmick to get elected on up there. God knows what she'll do if they ever do go independant, since it's pretty obvious she never thinks it'll actually happen.
I already gave you your answer. Tactical voting, and complacency amongst SNP voters after 2017's landslide.
There is also the fact that the independence debate has given the Scottish Tories a concrete purpose: Unionism. They are, far more than the Lib Dems or Labour, the party of British nationalism/Unionism in Scotland.
The Tories aren't genuinely taking ground for any reason other than the fact Scottish politics is becoming polarised. It's a reactionary backlash. And from the polls I've seen, they're going to have a hard time keeping that ground in the context of Brexit.
Xavier Williams
>reddit spacing yikes
Leo Stewart
Not an argument.
Kevin Lewis
So; >Scotland voting Tory = Unionism, good >England voting Tory = Evil oppression, independance now!!! Yes, that makes perfect sense mate.
Eli Lee
it seems like you lads have just as much grievances with eachother just like the other big 3 across the continent
who is the china, japan and korea of the british isles?
Henry Ross
Scotland isn't voting Tory. The SNP still won, comfortably.
Compare that 28% of the vote to the 45% of the vote the Tories won in England.
Ryder Sullivan
China-England Japan-also England Korea- everyone else
Evan Morris
>Scotland isn't voting Tory EXCEPT THEY DID. Holy fuck you have literally no rebuttal to this, do you? It's almost as if it undermines your entire perpetual victim narrative, isn't it? Absolutely fucking pathetic.
John Perez
The Tories. Lost. In. Scotland.
A few percentage points higher turnout, they would have come THIRD. We have the Tories today because England gave them 45% of their vote, and England has 80% of the votes overall. This is YOUR mess, not ours.
Joshua Hernandez
This is why I fucking hate so many English Labourites. The automatic assumption that Scotland is solely responsible for cleaning up England's mess. The slightest fucking slip, and it's somehow ALL our fault.
