Easy access to other major world regions through the mediterrain and through the Eurasian steppes. So basically all innovations had a easy time reaching us.

Because many small nations competed against each other. They stayed innovative and copied what worked for their neighbours. Only in this way could Europe remain more powerful for centuries than the much larger Asian countries.
