so did you do it by just reading the sentence and translating all words and just ignored the cases for the most part? Because that was my approach so far.

I maximized my input. I bought a Vulgata and started reading at least an hour per day. After finishing it I came back to learning the rules, reading Wheelock right now, I am halfway in and have no problems reading Virgil or Ovid

Πρώτος για τσουρέkι

jewish, the most powerful language in the world.

is watching videos at like 75% a legitimate way to train my listening or should i try watching them at normal speed even if i miss a lot of stuff?

normal speed, you need to train your ears to hear in the speed people actually speak

I watched English videos at normal speed and listened to parts I didn't understand again until I got what they said

My head is hurt after 24 hours of listening to disney songs in french. It's always like this, i'd never thought learning language can be harmful.
They have canadian french dub too, should i listen it too or it's really different french?

Latin was taught that way for centuries, it was basically synonymous with teaching grammar as a concept in many parts of Europe

The fuck you’re doing man? Just practice fewer hours, no need to hasten your learning.
Also Canadian French is another variation with a very distinct accent although the grammar is pretty much the same. If you’re a beginner I will recommend to stick with one version and only try to consume more media of the other when you’re at an advanced level.

>I bought a Vulgata and started reading at least an hour per day
based and breadpilled

It's not very useful way to actually learn the language. My teacher may be to blame but after a year of latin in HS I could only read the very simple latin phrases that was in our textbook--that I could probably read even without the classes. I couldn't read a single book by myself.

I wonder if it was of any help to people back then.

Ήταν στο Τερkενλής στο Θεσσαλονίkη σήμερα. Παρά πολλοί άνθρωποι εkεί kαι 1kγρ του τσουρέkι ήταν 16 ευρώ, μα είναι ωραίο, ναι.

Well, I can see it working a hundred years ago, when kids in good schools had more than one or two classes of latin per week for one year only, but actually had it several times a week for years, just like we have english today, with stricter teachers and actual literature to read and analyse like you did with the bible

I imagine you'd never run into a kid who went to a jesuit school in 1900 who didn't hold latin grammar in the bag by the time he graduated and who didn't read virgil. Today it's more of a tradition than anything, no one cares about latin. If they did, they'd teach it differently

there's a popup dictionary for japanese called rikaichan that tells you when there are word endings that describe tense, negation, volition, etc.
does something like this exist for finnish, or at least a dictionary that can parse morphemes like that? it's incredibly useful.

>no one cares about latin
It's a shame. Learning latin has been one of the best decisions I made in my life. It's more fulfilling than any modern language I tried to learn so far. Maybe because of the great literature you get to read in it's pure form. I only regret not starting earlier.

It would be great to have that for all languages. I know that you can import dictionaries with yomi-chan, I wonder if it would work with dictionaries that are not in japanese.

Heu, fortasse res mutabunt

>can't decide whether I should be sensible and learn french or let my inner weeb run wild and learn japanese
I might just flip a coin.

Attached: DzfQaSBWwAE8pwf.jpg (500x334, 26K)

Try both.
Learn french the right way, with books and word lists and learn japanese the weeb way, with visual novels + ITHVNR and online shitposting.

Is Hebrew called "Jewish" in French?

I learned french in school for 4 years so there's a lot of residual knowledge there which is why it would be quite sensible for me to learn it. Taking a peek at /fr/ I could understand more than I expected even. Plus it's a country I'm actually close to.
But man learning a language that is completely different from our european ones sure is intriguing and japanese is a pretty obvious favorite for that.

Considering how easy french would be for me I'm honestly wondering now whether it's viable to learn both.
Has anyone here ever tried learning more than one language at a time?

Not the same guy but you seem more interested in Japanese than french at the moment. I’d pick Japanese if I were you.

I am doing exactly what I told you. two hours ago I was studying italian now it's shitpost time. I am progressing quite well

English and France, still no good with both

Friendly reminder that the only Nordic language you should learn is Swedish

cornish

>why yes, i am learning danish, how could you tell?

I'm plenty interested in french. If I wasn't I'd lust keep letting it rot like I have since I finished school.

Guess I might as well try. I can always drop one of them if it's too much. Now to look up resources for french.

And good luck with your studies user.

Read in your target language

already started, gonna finish all the books before i read something else

I read obscure books on history that are only available in English :(

Attached: 1545529248686.png (650x638, 25K)

You'll have to start reading more often in your target language. I usually read something in Spanish or Japanese on topics that interest me.

If Serbia died would you become interested in Serbian?

Since you love dead languages most of all, serbbro

>I know that you can import dictionaries with yomi-chan, I wonder if it would work with dictionaries that are not in japanese.
tried it and yes it does, but the inflections aren't part of the dictionary files, so you would only get the base words unless you had one containing all forms (likely too big).

Sorry, I had to go out for a bit.

You are probably already familiar with the Bible, right?
You can just read it. Don't bother to translate every single word you don't know. As long you can make some sense of it you will pick the meanings with time. You only need to establish a good flow.

Might sound a bit weird but I like to drink a bit before long readings in languages that I am not very familiar with. I get more focused and get less bothered about the little things. Find readings of it online to do while you are studying, it helps to get you to move faster and aids comprehension (sometimes you don't immediately get the meaning of the written word but when you listen you get it)

Don't overthink it

Thank you for the reply. I've been going very slow and trying to get every last thing perfect, that's probably the problem.

I felt I could try the Advanced ones for Spanish, how did these all go?

what does "niche" mean? as in, "niche movie", "niche game", etc

It means it has a limited appeal, or that it's only popular to a small group of people.

Not a Spanish speaker so take this with a grain of salt:
Beginner: I'd translate "That" as "Aquel"; "Car" as "coche";
Intermediate: "Voy a caminar" translates to "I will take a walk", so that's incorrect, it should be (I think) "Fue a caminar";
Advanced:
mi padres estan divorciandose porque ellos pelean todo lo tiempo

It’s a jew, you gotta pay for those corrections, silly goym.
