It's worked for me on more than one occasion. I'd never want to seriously harm a bear, so bear mace it is. They'll either be blinded or disabled for a short period of time and stumble off or stop dead in their tracks.

so bear mace may be a solution. I just watched a report about how to behave in forests with bears and they also say to NEVER ever bring your dog with you as the bear goes then into full rage mode.
