There's got to be more humane ways of killing people than gassing them. Death by execution squad or by hanging, or something. If the punishment for a serious crime is death, then anything that makes it more complicated or takes longer than necessary is unjust. Just kill them and be done with it.

the reason capital punishment is so complicated and costs so much (when pure helium or carbon monoxoide gas is so cheap and causes a painless death) is obviously because there are companies involved who pur their interests before the interests of the state and of the dying.
