How is life for the average middle class Cuban in terms of buying power, safety, social security etc?

In Cuba there’s no real middle class, there’s the average which is struggle and poverty and then people higher than that. The only real ways you can elevate yourself is by having foreign connections were working for the government. For instance my mother’s friend works for the government agency that rents cars to foreigners, what she does is insure that there will be a car available for whoever is it is that’s in contact with her, for doing this she’s slide some money underhand. She’s probably one of the riches women in Havana that permanently lives in the country. With her money she build herself a nice two story house, with all the luxuries of an upper middle class American household. I have an uncle that a high ranking officer in his city’s municipal government, he gets a higher paycheck the average Cuban and also has a car which most Cubans could never dream of.

Despite Cuba’s poverty i’d say it one of the safest 3world countries you can visit, that’s not to say people won’t steal shit if you leave it out but as far as anyone mugging you or putting you in any potential physical danger, it’s very unlikely to happen. I don’t quit know why this is.

Of losing money, of course. That's why our land reform was decried as communism, when it was actually an anti-feudal move. Taiwan carried theirs at about the same time and they went completely unhindered: this is because americans didn't have lands there. And that's considering that the agency that carried it out in Taiwan was being funded by the american government.
The difference is that they had much less power than posterior americans did; they didn't have a full-on intelligence agency and a formal army, and they definitely didn't have the support of the people

Cuba didn't start as a Russian colony when Castro came to power. He installed his government, and after relations with the US went sour he turned to the USSR as an ally because small countries that offend their powerful neighbors generally don't last long without protection.
