Why do americans think that if you don't have a job somehow you'll end up killing yourself? I've seen it in a lot of posts. Surely people can have hobbies not related to work and enjoy their free time in a million other ways since they're not hampered by work.

It's one of the main reasons why I don't want to contribute though. Most muslims/niggers are the ones taking welfare, and I'm not going to contribute to that.

People here are cogs in a corporate machine. When they have free time, all they do is watch TV and play video games. They don’t read, paint, write, exercise, explore, conduct experiments, or any other activity that might enrich their lives spiritually besides work. I think it's mostly because the word NEET just has a negative connotation.

If you see someone dedicating themselves to the activities you listed, nobody would think they're a NEET until you told them. Stuff like painting and writing, even as a hobby, could still count as a living, and someone who is conducting experiments is regarded as someone taking a sabbatical.

The people society thinks of when they hear the word NEET are hedonistic assholes that never really take the free time they have to better themselves or their community. The fact that people are NEETs willingly just for the austimbux and not for the opportunities it opens further reinforces the idea that it's not so much a hippie-esque liberation as it is conciously leeching off people who work.
