Saw this happen in Indonesia (Bali). My friend and I were with a few of his indonesian in-laws, they were driving us to a mountain and everyone was taking shots of vodka on the way (including the driver). Then in a small little restaurant we got some food, fried rice I think. They accidentally put some fried pork on one bowl an one of them ate it. He freaked out and made himself throw up. 10 minutes later he was drinking vodka again.

I have another friend like that. It essentially boils down to "pork is easy to avoid, but alcohol is really great and fun, so I may as well avoid the deep-seated guilt that comes with eating it". I also have a couple of other former muslim friends turned atheists and a few of them still avoid pork. For them it's partly cultural, partly habit, partly difficult-to-shake-the-idea-that-pork-is-unclean.
