They're coping hard from the cultural trauma and their new mixed identity:

What actually happened is truly dark and disturbing- it is the sort of thing that could only be done in recent times by whites, given the lack of conscience (ie: inviting indigenous women to Christian missions and then raping them there). Over time, the community went from resisting (ie: the women would hide when Spanish soldiers came to town, they would strangle the baby that came from soldier rape) to acknowledging they could not fight back, to the community seeing that resistance was futile (then men who hid the women would be beaten and forced to tell the soldiers where they were), to a more gray-area where indigenous women would sometimes/often covet the white conquerors.
>Someone on this sub talked about racial trauma being generational; how parents pass on these traumas to their children, often inadvertently; and therefore effects of colonization from long ago travels centuries. One thing that stood out (and again this is sort of disturbing stuff so I'm bracing you) in the Spanish sexual abuse of indigenous women is the powerlessness of its men. When they men aren't strong enough to resist, something psychological happens to women.
Adding into the humiliation, the person that helped Cortez conquer the aztecs was a female by the name of La Maliche or something like that, who later became his mistress.
