Vedas were pagan , puranas are not pagan. In fact a festival in the state of bihar called chhat is probably the only Vedic festival remaining alive. The Vedic religion is mostly dead
Tho in bhagvat purana Krishna tells his villagers to stop worshipping the pagan sky daddy precipitation god Indra and worship (not Krishna but) the local mountain instead. This may be seen as super pagan but he just wanted to tell them to respect the primary giver. Indra, like Yahweh got pissed and attacked the village with heavy rains and thunder. Krishna picked up the mountain on his finger and used it as an umbrella for the villagers.
