Nynorsk (translates to "New Norwegian")[6] is one of the two written standards of the Norwegian language, the other being Bokmål. Nynorsk was established in 1929 as one of two state-sanctioned fusions of Ivar Aasen's standard Norwegian language (Landsmål) with the Dano-Norwegian written language (Riksmål), the other such fusion being called Bokmål. Nynorsk is a variation which is closer to Landsmål, whereas Bokmål is closer to Riksmål.

In local communities, one quarter of Norwegian municipalities have declared Nynorsk as their official language form, and these municipalities account for about 12% of the Norwegian population.

Bokmål and Nynorsk are not dialects.

We used to be federated together with Denmark and we spoke Danish. On the countrysides they spoke dialects. A man went about and collected all the words and made a national language which were supposed to be our own. Today, few speak it though. Another guy was trying to make us speak old Norse but he also failed

Because bokmål is too close to danish, and nynorsk is beautiful to read. It enhances every literary work and is great for poetry. Most bokmål users either don’t know or care about what they are rejecting, and most modern nynorsk users have a very limited command of it.
It is destined to die out, which is very unfortunate
