also want to add that I find most other europeans have a pretty surface level knowledge of rap but dutch seem to be a bit deeper in it

You have many people who listen to Dutch electronic music (as most top DJ's are Dutch).
And you have people who listen to carnival music.
If people go to parties they check out music from one of these three categories. American music is mostly pop music.
