Because the story of Aladdin is actually set in ancient China and not in Arabia since it's a fairy tale for Arabic people. Orientalist Westerns conflated the teller of the story, Scheherazade, with the characters of the story itself.

Baghdad or India is synonymous so, jasmine is definitely Indian. so, its a love story of muslim Indian girl with a muslim central asian boy. later, it became popular in arabia.
