Not long ago I got myself deep in the Skycoin fundamentals.
It was in April when I got to know about it, but I felt Sky wanted to achieve too much, but after seeing what they did with the Skyminer mesh I belive the potential is massive.
And when I say that it can change the world, I mean it. Best example is given by the recent events happening now. The Bangladesh government has shut down access to the internet, in an attempt to silence student protestors.
>Skycoin's decentralized internet will eliminate this tactic too often employed by centralized governments and organizations.
I am waiting for the moment when this will be completely applicable since the first day I learned about Skycoin. Bangladesh is just one of the many countries where authoritar governments are using internet as a tool for manipulation or for lack of information. Soon will be over. It has to be!
Michael Cook
crypto is about freedom and privacy the 2 things more valuable then money is power and information and this is what Skycoin is about right now Free peer2peer trading and access to information
Christian Lopez
Exactly what I was thinking when I read about this unfortunate event
Skycoin has their Skywire up and running, so now anyone in the world can access any information they want without any intervention from others Someone in Middle East, Africa, China, etc can actually search HUMAN RIGHTS, as in many countries was told to remove things like civil rights from the search engines
Logan Butler
>Iran >China >Sweden
Probably a lot of others I'm not thinking of. Fuck Google. Fuck the NSA.
Angel Stewart
only thing I am afraid is that these fuckers will find a way to get rid of projects, like Skycoin they would do anything to eliminate the enemy and keep the power in their hands sky has to keep their strength and only go for achieving the goals and roadmap they have from the beginning
Jackson Lopez
>keep dreaming and come back to earth fren
Can't you see how much power gov/org have? Skycoin is still at the very beginning, can't imagine something will happen very soon
Carson Sanchez
Listen, maybe you are right in your own way.
But, did you followed the recent Skywire stats?
In the last two months over 2000 nodes joint the network, and is getting more and more popular, because people realize it's massive potential. That's all I am saying
Carter Cox
fren, compare data to the millions of millions in the world. Not saying that the vision and idea is bad, I am saying that there is still a long road to take
Seriously now, the ongoing struggle to maintain a free and open internet need solving fast. Synth and the development team behind has to complete their mission to create a new system.
James Martinez
How long can take? I think you are overly exaggerate with this log road you are talking about....
Austin Russell
OP, this needs to work in developed countries first, then it could prob be succesfuly implemented in 3rd world with cheap hardware and a viable solution for rented bandwidth. Bangladesh is a good example but we re pretty far from providing alternatives to that situation. maybe except satellite internet
Joseph James
I am aware that the solution is through mass adoption, but if nodes will be adopted on a mass scale, traditional internet will be no longer necessary. But let's be honest here, 3rd world countries needs this more than developed countries. All I am saying is that Skywire has the ability to become de facto solution for unfortunate events like that in Bangladesh
Dominic Sullivan
Is so hard to murder somone with a skyminer? If gov wants to stop u they can. End of. Free internet is a meme. Tor can bypass most shit
Jacob Anderson
If it would be a meme as you are claiming, than we wouldn't talk about it at all. We wouldn't even know about it.
Luke Collins
Sounds cool, how does Skycoin solves this? I'm thinking if two nodes on both sides of the border can communicate the problem is solved
Eli Lewis
Shutting nodes down individually is not feasable, they would go for the bandwidth source obv
Henry Baker
Every individual could become their own ISP by running node, choosing which nodes they want to connect with building an inclusive, community-druven internet. The main goal is to offer secure and fast network and to eliminate a third 'counterpart'. It's something like democratization of the internet.
Luke Parker
Skycoin is largely business-facing and has strong positive feedback of incentives. General public will overwhelmingly ignore Skywire for years. This general public is the target for ISP's and government control. As long as those populations remain unchanged, it is unlikely that many institutions will conspire to stop the project.
Benjamin Rogers
Since you need a bandwidth provider, you don't eliminate third parties, just filter one or two ISP tiers
Nicholas Powell
But still, at the end of the day the aim is to get rid of control. Corporate and government entities continue to threaten the freedom of internet. Third party scams exploits users, censorship is present constantly. Skywire practically takes control from ISPs and gives it back to the users, due to the blockchain based descentralized network
Jose Lee
it s true that inside the net everything that happens stays private, hence if the bandwidth is provided from a thirs party does not matter, unless that thrd party will enforce policies that are not compatible with the private character of the network
