I'll defend this by saying that the armed forces is not the correct platform for political discussion. A successful army needs unity and members who will do as they are told. If the commanding ranks start letting the lower ranks develop their own agenda, you start to lose authority and then unity.

Naturally, an armed wing of a goverment, should coincide with its ideology and policy, regardless, otherwise it is indeed a threat, which defeats the purpose that goverment in question requires said armed wing for.
