My parents like it too. I thought it was a novel idea when the show started years ago, but now it feels stale.
I remember talking to one of the people on the Irish Gogglebox (two young fellas and a mother from Limerick). He told me that they don't even watch complete programs, just a highlights package that lasts a few hours, and there is a TV crew in another room the whole time.
