The guy who created the transistor is just as rare as the elons, and guess what? Both are equally necessary for the transistor to have real world applications outside of a lab. You think the Automobile would have taken off as fast as it did without Henry Ford? Sure the guy never invented the automobile, but he perfected the manufacturing processes for it to be mass produced. He also skillfully managed a company of tens of thousands of workers. Leadership and vision are as much of skills as being an engineer or scientist. Both are needed and one cannot succeed without the other. A Henry Ford is just as needed as a Nikolai Tesla.
