Japanese 7/11 started as a company licensed by the original 7/11. While the original 7/11 was already dying, the japanese one became a far bigger company in their own way(basically they only use the name). so it was really natural that Japanese one bought the original 7/11. it's understandable that local americans around texas claim it's american but it's Japanese in disguise for most people.
