Tbh all of our eastern neighbours have, despite what you'd might expect, a lot of reasons to like the guy to some extent. Unlike Piłsudski who wanted to restore multicultural Poland from the times of PLC and aimed to do so with a rather aggressive or even imperialist attitude, Dmowski was a rather realistic nationalist and opted for a smaller, more self-contained country. And he wasn't a fascist per se, his party was literaly National Democracy.

In interwar Poland it was the Left regime that wanted to absorb Ukraine. Nationalists generally opposed taking in territories that wouldn't polonize within a generation or three, there being a lot of Polish-Ukrainian in-betweeners in rural areas. Piłsudski was a post-socialist Belorussian.
