They were. According to Ribbentrop-Molotov there was a direct cooperation in field of technology and resources. The cars that were used in Katyń to transport Polish officers were German. And likely, German tanks during invasion of France were fueled by Russian oil. There was also a strict cooperation of NKVD ans NSDAP when fighting against the Polish underground.
