What's the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia?
What's the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia?
Bump
Like Spain and Portugal
In what sense?
>Same root
>Same name
>Same religion
>Basically same culture
>Malaysia is basically part of Nusantara which is the same way Portugal is part of Iberia
>Indonesia holds most part of Nusantara while Spain holds most part of Iberia
And etc etc
Same name?
this is way too simplistic
I mean same people's names
Like Rodriguez-Rodrigues/Fernandez-Fernandes
but they don't have the same names. you won't see any malaysians having a sanskrit name like javanese do. you won't see malaysians named "fernando" like bataks.
Ackhshually, Malaysian Catholics tend to have Portuguese names.
Well there's many Malay names like Amir, Rizal, Danu, etc
Batak got their names from different religion you know
best fren
are there even catholics in malaysia?
>basically same culture
>Same religion
a lot of ethnic here have their own distinctive cultures
>Amir, Rizal, Danu, etc
they derived from islamic names,
basically malaysia has been more progressively arabized than indo
It's complicated. In many ways it's like Australia/New Zealand or US/Mexico but it is not clear cut. Malaysia developed faster (though Indos are catching up) hence we took literally millions of Indos as cheap labour since the 1980's. Geographically, militarily and population wise, Indos are much stronger than us but we hire their women as maids and men as construction workers. This infuriates some Indos to no end and they have a chip on their shoulder to this day. We cheated during our military confrontations because we Malays are natural diplomats. We're good at making alliances. The Commonwealth helped us defeat Indonesia and the commies. This too infuriates the Indos. Now, before all those Indons ITT flame me, Malaysia has a similar relationship with Singapore but we being inferior and have a chip on our shoulders instead. However, through ups and down, Indonesia and Malaysia are brothers and like it or not, are already tied culturally and economically. Maybe 100 years from now, ASEAN can become something like the EU.
Yes. They are mainly ethnic Indians from Goa, Chinese converts, though there are remnants of half breed Portuguese/Malay (Serani) community who speak the Kristang creole. I have friends named Fernandez, Jacinta etc.
Portuguese-Galician is also part of ethnic in Iberia, they have their own culture too
>they derived from islamic names
And? It's still the same anyway for Indo and Malay to share common names
>chip on our shoulder.
not me. I don't know why being a maid or construction worker is so looked down upon. at least they have a job and making money. please take in more workers, so they can send in even more money :DDD
WE
Australia-NZ are mostly Anglo immigrants
US-Mexico have different roots
It fits more with Spain-Portugal tbqh ofc if you don't bring Political and Economic ties which is different
i think it's more like india-pakistan
okay roasting started
>60s confrontation
basically we are furious over possible other north vietnam- south vietnam in maritime sea add that with geopolitical turmoil between western capitalist and communist, we backed down when our communist backed by china which strongly supported that shit got purged and singapore with brunei got kicked out from malay federation.
>Natural diplomats
Natural jumper to save their own asses from our standpoint
>Indonesia and Malaysia are brothers and like it or not, are already tied culturally and economically
ah yes lagu lama, your islamic national constitution basically against our national principle and constitution which recognize six religions and folk believes
also Mahathir with his bilateral doctrine is getting close with China which make things more difficult in Asean which conform multilateral policy regarding on diplomacy with China on South China Sea dispute
AND muslim here still have their own name derived from their own ethnicity and from other non islamic cultures such as sanskrit or the west
